Sobriety is horribly overrated...
I was and remain huge fan of Keith Floyd. I had always suspected it but having read a couple of his books it’s clear that off camera he was a deeply unpleasant man. But so what? He enjoyed life, did what he wanted and now is remembered as a genuine food hero. Seems to me that everyone that has come along since have never lived up to the standard he set.

Cookery shows are like porn. People watch on the TV what they don't get at home.
Actually I used to watch Jamie Oliver cooking (when I still watched tv) and I picked up a lot of tricks from him to use at home

However, the fun bit about him was that it all looked so easy and quick (and it mostly was), that he had a few good tricks and tips as well of ideas of combinations of food/spices. But the menues mostly seemed to be "normal stuff" you eat at home. I don't know if I'd visit a restaurant of his where he's most likely not even cooking.

I've never heard of the guy, but thanks to this thread, I'll be checking him out. Before I Google-fu...is he only in Europe or does he have a presence in the USA as well?

@TheWolverine - that Netflix documentary, Ugly Delicious, is amazing!
He started a massive UK campaign to improve the nutritional content and variety of school lunches and also, i think, increase central government funding for each meal. He also tried to start a healthy eating campaign in the US a few years ago but I don't think he got very far. School dinners were fairly successful though.

yes, what's under the kilt is always solid, robust and reliable too. Everything is in harmony in Scotland!

-4C on the car temperature gauge this morning, so perhaps it is a good idea to leave the kilt at home, aye!

I was always told the reason that nothing is worn under kilt is that it's all in perfect working order.

You're remembering the great Spike Milligan who said...

"Is there anything worn under the kilt? No, it's all in perfect working order" said with that seriously blank Milligan stare!

The best way to work out which tartan a Scotsman is wearing. Lift up the kilt, if you see a quarterpounder, it‘s McDonald‘s.

I got a Noddy Holder one Christmas. Now I need somewhere to store my other Enid Blyton books.
