I have a craving for tinned rice pudding!

Could not find any at Coop and when I asked the very big, unsmiling lady working in the aisle, I thought she was going to bite my nose off!

Where can I get tinned rice pudding? (Don't bother telling me I should be making it myself, I don't have time!)

Re: I have a craving for tinned rice pudding!

Ambrosia?

I recall having some after many years of forced abstinance and being very dissapointed with it. Same with Heinz tomato soup and even, god-forbid, Hainz baked beans. Once you've mastered these things you realise that the tastes you grew up with are nothing like as good as your memory says they were.

Sorry, doesn't help, I know.

It's possible Jims will have some Ambrosia, at a price..... in the meantime, the Migros sell Riz au Lait in smallish yellow pots (in larger letters it says Milch Reis). You'll find it in the chiller cabinet near the yoghurt. Perfectly acceptable emergency replacement, especially with a dollop of decent jam!!!

Re: I have a craving for tinned rice pudding!

I recently saw some (think it was Ambrosia) in Manor, in the section with the waitrose products.

It really doesn't take long. The stirring takes a bit of time but when it's in the oven, it's time you can do something else with.

And, when you're stirring, you could be reading this forum, or yodelling...

Re: I have a craving for tinned rice pudding!

I think cream rice is disgusting..

But i did see it a few days ago in the Signy centre.. There's a lady with a UK food stand who tours around the different shopping centres.

I bought some chicken flavour crisps and some IrnBru.

What is this 'stirring' of which you speak? I've always based rice pudding on a Good Housekeeping cookbook recipe, and all yo udo is throw rice, milk, sugar and butter into a dish and bung it in the oven. Nothing could be simpler.

Well, I suppose opening a tin is simpler, now Ithink about it, but not by much.

You can stir for half an hour (not constantly) and then bake for 30 mins or just bake for 2.5 hours.

The first way is far more energy efficient (with induction) and much faster.

I use this recipe from the BBC website.

If you are ever in the UK, buy pots of ordinary vanilla rice puds at M&S. They were my favourite for a year of rice pud craving. Then i switched my attention to blueberries...
