Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, banned in Switzerland?

I recently came across this article:

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...em-843400.html

Quote:
Given the weight of scientific evidence that has now built up against trans-fats, there is an overwhelming case for the Government to ban their use. This has already happened in Denmark, where legislation removing HVO from the food chain was introduced five years ago. Since then, the rate of heart disease among Danes has dropped by a staggering 40 per cent. The only European country to follow suit since then is Switzerland, which introduced a ban this April. Britain has no plans to take action, instead being content to leave the industry to get its own house in order.
I still see many products with hydrogenated vegetable oil in supermarkets here. Yesterday I a carton of cream with 30% hydrogenated palm fat. Is there supposed to be a ban here, or did the article get it wrong? I read somewhere else that Migros and Coop set a limit of 2% in products that they stock.

Has anyone heard of this "ban"?

Yep, it was in swissinfo a couple of days ago. Not so much a ban as a limitation. Link.

Re: Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, banned in Switzerland?

It appears now it's excessive carbohydrates in the diet that is the nasty culprit.
The latest also is that saturated fats (including those from animal sources) are completely ok and have no adverse effects on blood lipids or are the cause of cardiovascular heart disease.
Everyone back to square one and enjoy bacon and eggs for breakfast.

In order to ensure I'm not affected by the latest medical fads, and don't put myself at unnecessary harm by artificially limiting my diet due to said fads, I eat as much of everything I can as often as possible.

I'm still alive, so it's a successful strategy.

You dug a 2008 thread out of mothballs just to say that!
