Well I realized that some products I buy at Migros come with the V-label on it, yet it isn't much the case. For example fresh egg-based pasta with the V-label...

It's probably just a wording issue, I'm not a vegan myself. They use it on Vegan products but also on Vegetarian (makes sense) so it may be confusing
It IS confusing:

"The V-Label is an internationally recognised, registered symbol for labelling vegan and vegetarian products and services. "

Idiots!

Tom

Why not? If they say they sell vegan or vegetarian burgers I expect them to give me what they advertised.
You expect it. The point is what has been revealed in the media just shows you the level of competence and lack of care that is behind the preparation of the food in such establishments.
They simply don't care.
I have a friend who worked there for a time and she simply couldn't believe the things that went on.
Oil that was meant to be changed every third batch of fries or something, left in there for hours, used over and over again.
Stuff that falls on the floor, behind counters or machinery, picked up and put back in with the rest and served to customers.
Unused stock put back in the freezer after being out all day etc. etc.
And this was in Switzerland.
The pay is low so the staff aren't motivated. The result is basic hygiene and food preparation standards simply not being adhered to.
So no, I am not surprised that chicken is served as vegetarian in McDonald's. Not in the slightest.

In the UK I think there are two nearly identical green v ticks in a circle with either vegan or vegetarian writen in tiny letters somewhere. Here one must read the word underneath. I would assume, if it doesn’t specify, it’s veggie not vegan.

I have a friend that works in a posh restaurant in London and most of that goes on there, too. He's also poorly paid.

Restaurants will do what they can get away with. I'm surprised your friend thought it was unusual.

I think she thought that it didn't go on in Switzerland. In the end McDonald's here is just the same junk as in every other country, just at triple the price.
But I agree, they will do all that as it cuts costs, increases profits and yes because they can nearly always get away with it.

I like good quality food and tend to aim for a healthy balanced diet but there's nothing wrong with a cheeky Maccies now and again.

In fact, I'm more suspicious of people who get all weird about it.
Exactly!

I worked in industrial food production for 15yrs, then was shift manager for a site with multiple food outlets , including a KFC and BurgerKing. I was astonished by the system of alarms in the KFC production process. It's incredibly time sensitive, but we had a very busy location so it was rare that any food went to waste.

Maccy Ds were late getting onto the veggie bandwagon, but I've been enjoying BurgerKing's spicy beanburgers for about 30yrs, and they're lush. Oh...and chilli cheese bites in winter mmmm....

Every third DAY, not every third batch!

It was an example, no exact time frame intended.
I have no idea how often it actually has to be changed as per their internal rules or the industry's rules. She just said that it had to be changed every so often, but this was not respected at all and that it sat there all day or something like that.

Only 1.2x the price of the US, according to the BigMac Index.

Anything higher than anything charged in any other country is too high for what you get.

So, you admit you are overpaid then?

Yes, but this is necessary as the prices are so high. If the prices (cost of everything) came down, then pay could come down, but not before.

fish = meat
I go by the following key difference: Meat is the general term used for all animal flesh, whereas fish is considered as part of seafood.

Meat is a generalised term used for all animal flesh. This category consists of flesh from animals such as pigs, cattle, lambs, etc. It generally includes the skeletal muscles, associated fat and other tissues of an animal.

Fish, on the other hand, is part of seafood. The word ‘fish’ generally refers to both, the animal and the food prepared from it. This category also includes shellfishes such as molluscs, crustaceans and echinoderms.

Clue: seafood, be it fish, molluscs, whales, or plankton are all animals!

Unless you are only referring to algae.

Tom

P.S. In many cultures, such as Italian, even insects are considered to be animals.

I said I personally define animal as such.

You'll find that the definition of animal varies from country to country (and even within countries), culture to culture and by religion.

Next you'll be saying that human beings are animals.
