Re: Chicken is the new Vegan!

Hardly surprising. Just enough to read some of the comments on that page.
Surely if the diet is so strict then either you check before you eat or go somewhere where you will be served properly. Who goes to eat at McDonald's for vegetarian anyway? Doesn't make any sense. You know full well in advance that it is meat-based eatery.

Re: Chicken is the new Vegan!

It's basic incompetence on the part of those preparing/serving the 'meals'.

At least it's not life-threatening, as getting gluten in gluten-free meals can be for some people with coeliac disease - and that's far more common, especially since 'gluten-free' is trendy with some people who don't have a clear medical reason for avoiding gluten.

btw, 'meal' is a generous term for anything you get from Maccas - if I was concerned about my health I just wouldn't eat there at all and, as it is, I haven't had anything from them for well over a decade.

I had a friend with that, all of her food was paid for by health insurance.

When one goes over the border to France and asks for a vegetarian option, the choice is "ham omelette", "risotto with mushrooms" or a plate of plain vegetables!

Even Haggis comes now as a vegetarian option...which in my view kind of defeats the purpose.

Offering meal options is simply part of good business, for even a fast food chain like McDonalds

Nowt new. I've had it loads of times in Edinburgh. The best one was at the old Tempus Bar at the George Hotel. Simply outstanding! The Royal McGregor does a decent version too.

People who wish to eat out with their mates perhaps. Or do you have no mates to eat out with....

The point was anyone who seriously cares about what they eat or follows a strict diet for any reason, definitely doesn't eat there.

I once (having not eaten meat since 25 years) bit into a wrongly served fish fajita which contained chicken: I felt sick for days after, and have since become used to smelling my food before eating.

Right and those kind of people would never want to enjoy a get together with friends without making them meet somewhere special because of his/her eating habits.....

Sorry but you don't seem to even get the basic of menu design for a public place.

To be fair they said they didn't eat meat, so presumably continued to eat fish, which is generally speaking not considered to be the same thing.

Why not? If they say they sell vegan or vegetarian burgers I expect them to give me what they advertised. What if it was about gluten free or nuts free food, or whatever is causing serious problems for those who have serious allergies? I know, many people believe it's just a fashion or some sort of attention seeking, spoiled behaviour.....but seriously, if you say your product doesn't contain nuts it shouldn't! End of story. Regardless of how pretentious you think people with restricted diets are. Edited to add: Oh, and how cheap it is. In CH is not even that cheap.....

Re: Chicken is the new Vegan!

Well I realized that some products I buy at Migros come with the V-label on it, yet it isn't much the case. For example fresh egg-based pasta with the V-label...

It's probably just a wording issue, I'm not a vegan myself. They use it on Vegan products but also on Vegetarian (makes sense) so it may be confusing

Actually it probably caters for all sorts of diets, although maybe not full-on coeliacs or others with deadly food allergies. See the deadly Pret case last year .

I like good quality food and tend to aim for a healthy balanced diet but there's nothing wrong with a cheeky Maccies now and again.

In fact, I'm more suspicious of people who get all weird about it.
