Nespresso Capsules

OK, I was given a nespresso machine at Christmas. Now hooked using the sample capsules supplied with it. But where oh where do I buy the replacement capsules?

I've tried so far places that sell the machines, Migro's and Conforama, no luck. Tried Nescafe coffee stockists like Denner and Globus (Glattzentrum), no dice. So I still have Coop to try.....

Or am I stuck buying capsules online from Nespresso or from the "Nespresso Boutique"? The machines seem everywhere, but where are the capsules?

Re: Nespresso Capsules

As far as I know they are a proprietary consumable you can only get through Nespresso. We were also given one when they first came out, and although I also got hooked, the inconvenience of getting new capsules was too much.

Not to mention that if you do the math...well...one kg. of coffee will now cost you between CHF 30 and CHF 40....ouch! Jelmoli sells nespresso machines as does Coop St. Annahof on the Bahnhofstrasse... Hmm...I think it's time for a tea

Re: Nespresso Capsules

That's the trick. You're now a slave to Nespresso. Welcome.

The capsules used to be available at different outlets, but about a year ago they reduced this to Nespresso's own outlets. This also meant they no longer take the capsules for recycling, except ...at Nespresso outlets. And who's going to mail old capsules or carry a sack into town twice a month? Hmm...

I had a discussion with a major supplier to Nespresso and he said Nespresso quality control is superb. Pity about the coffee aroma (or lack of). He let on that the coffee tastes the same the world over. Lowest Common Denominator or Holy Grail? You decide!

Its more like a cult... I have to walk past Nespresso everyday, and its like a temple... ok, may be just an exclusive deisgner outlet, with pictures of George Clooney. I reckon some of the people going in actually get dressed up first.

Re: Nespresso Capsules

If your in Zurich you can go to the store on Löwenstrasse or mail order from www.nespresso.ch which tbh is the easiest thing. Order 200 capsules and your looking at free delivery as well.

Recyling the capsules is a good idea, if you check on the nespresso page they list all areas where is a recyle bin - it seems that since stopping selling the capsules in shops the recyling points have exploded - we even have one in our tiny little village in Aargau.

Thats why Migros came out with their Tassimo thing, to directly compete with Nespresso. I don't know if they are any better.

And because the machine was a gift, I guess you can't easily dispose of it nor hide it in the cellar, in case the gift-giver arrives and says "Gee, wouldn't mind a Nespresso...."

But Nestle still have me, I am sort of hooked on those Vienna coffee sachels... also pretty pricey.

A lot of a** kissing is done at the Zug shop. I have heard they address you by name when you hand over your membership card and ask you if you would like your usual order. There is even a box to tick on the membership application form if you wish to remain anonymous

For the same guaranteed taste, strength and creaminess switch to a coffee machine with pods. There are so many brands now with pods.

To all those Nespresso fans out there - PLEASE RECYCLE YOUR NESPRESSO CAPSULES

Re: Nespresso Capsules

I rather like the inconvenience of my (non-Nespresso) Espresso machine.

I can change the coffee I use whenever I want as I am not a slave to the Nespresso capsules and my coffee works out at just a few raps per cup.

It is messy though and takes a bit longer to make but then I look at this as the same as ready meals versus home-cooked food.

How many people have the time to re-stuff their Nespresso capsules?

Why not recycle them instead? Would save you a bundle on alu foil...

Re: Nespresso Capsules

It may be a method to wean people off their Nespresso addiction.
For me I use loose coffee grounds and a plunger style coffee maker

I used to make coffee with a French press but switched to Nespresso.

A few years ago, there was quite a bit of press about the risks of unfiltered coffee, although I guess that Nespresso also falls into that category.

If you favor your coffee made in those elegant French press coffeepots, it may be time to switch to a filtered method. A randomized, crossover trial comparing unfiltered coffee against other beverages like water, tea, and hot chocolate showed elevated homocysteine levels in the coffee group. Homocysteine has been shown to be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Unfiltered coffee also contains diterpenes, cholesterol-raising substances, which are removed when coffee is filtered. Your best bet would be to cultivate a taste for tea, especially green tea, which numerous studies have shown to have heart-healthy and cancer-preventing benefits. If you choose to stick with coffee, use a filtered method.
