Where can I get good tomato juice?

Consider it a FWP, but why there's no tomato juice in shops? Coop sells a concoction of red goo, migros - I think they have something that resembles tomato juice. That's it. Innocent only make stuff that contains oranges. Please spare me the recipes of how to make one at home - I would like the convenience of simply grabbing one off the shelf and drinking it.
Back in the old days ('when I was a young lass/lad' song) we used to buy unconcentrated juice which contained: tomatoes and salt. No celery, challots and other bayleaf, pepper, olive oil palaver.
So, if anyone knows of a place, please let me know.

Re: Where can I get good tomato juice?

Actually I always liked to tomato juice from Migros and afai-remember it was only tomatoes and salt, in a glass bottle. To my utter shock it is not on their website anymore! Only because I took a break for a while?!
First thing I will check next time I'm there.

However, they do have an Alnatura one, you will now probably moan that it's tetra and sea salt?
But it's bio .....

Re: Where can I get good tomato juice?

I can understand if tj is heat-treated for a long shelf life - it's just the scarcity of it and the embellishments in the form of spices and other stuff... Thanks, will look at the two places already mentioned!

I would say your google-fu needs some work. Here is one :

https://captainjetson.com/air-travel...en-flying/?amp

This one suggests as the plane approaches 30k feet your taste improves. The neglect to realise that you would be dead at 30k feet. The aircraft is pressurised to around 8k feet. Around 2,500m.

Erm... I would like my tj on solid ground, thanks. If only I could find something which lists its ingredients as: tomatoes, salt.

Of course, I could buy a juicer, then spend time fishing it out of the basement (too bulky to keep in the kitchen, because it's all occupied by the stuff I need to make my own crumpets, biscuits, pizza sauces, fresh pasta, smoothies to rival the known brand, fondue set, racklette set, lemon squeezer, coffee grinder, etc, because, you know, you are in Switzerland, you must shut up and make it yourself or simply pack up and go live somewhere else as), then set it up, then wash it, then put it away.

I simply am asking for an option of buying a bottle of simple tomato juice. From a shop. Is it too much to ask for?

Migros has two decent sorts:
Alnatura (tetra-pack) and Sarasay (plastic bottle). I personally like Sarasay more.

So, I checked today. Indeed it seems the Migros tomato juice I enjoyed all my life (I used to love that stuff when a child already) is gone!

I figured - in the name of research for VenusC - I try the Sarasay. It seems thinner than the one they used to sell, which tasted much richer. Also it contains sugar - wtf? - yet definitely not enough salt .... but that's me and no problem to add while getting all the pepper and chilli into it as well. They label it explicitly = well visible with "vegetable juice" Someone please tell Migros about tomatoes? It's drinkable but not as nice as I want it to be and I won't buy it anymore for that reason and because of it's extra sugar content.

I did not see the Alnatura one. Maybe my Migros is too small to carry it. It's not in the cooler is it? I wouldn't like that as I like to store it for when I'm in the mood.

So yes, VenusC, tomato juice has become a problem in Switzerland. And from this moment on I will keep a close eye on suggestions on this thread as well. I mean seriously, this beats the brown sugar problem by far!

Re: Where can I get good tomato juice?

So I tried the Alnatura one from Migros. It's very rich, contains only tomatoes and some seasalt. AT Fr. 1.50 per half a liter I think it's fair priced.

I preferred the one in glass bottles Migros had for decades but as it's no longer available, this one is fine. I will buy it again. It's worth a try, VenusC, unless you found one to your liking (which would be which one?).

Couldn't vote in your poll as none of the offered answers matched.
<<Borderline indifferent. Drink it because they say it's good for you.>>
I didn't know it was "good for me" but I'm glad to hear it.

Re: Where can I get good tomato juice?

I'm not a regular TJ drinker, but do go through phases where Bloody Marys are my pre-dinner cocktail of choice. So I usually have a carton or two of passata, usually sourced at Lidl or Aldi, in the back of a cupboard.

Some of the Juices I'd had in the past are just too thin, so I find this to be the perfect consistency, diluted by the rest of the ingredients, but you could just add water to thin it to your preferred thickness.

Not sure it's even got salt in it, but that's easily added.

Re: Where can I get good tomato juice?

Thank you, curley and ace1.
Tj topic is as limiting as the choices, but I enjoyed reading about your own experiences.
For now, I have settled on small cartons of tj from coop. But will keep you posted if I find anything else. Passata - great idea...
