Anybody tried the Ambiano sous vide stick from Aldi?

Hi!

did anyone try the Ambiano sous vide stick from Aldi?

https://www.aldi-suisse.ch/de/aktion...us-vide-stick/

Both price and specs seem really interesting, so I would appreciate some first hand experience. I am turning quite the sous-vide enthusiast and I would like something I could use to cook larger portions or food for longer time (like pressed or pulled pork for several hours).

Thanks in advance!

I have few Ambiano things and they are good for the money paid. You don't get professional working horse but a simple household equipment.
Specs looks ok for home use, sous vide is not a rocket science

I don't have that exact model, but have a similar device (from Lakeland, in the UK) which will probably have been made in the same factory. I assume the Aldi one is a recirculator stick?

As previously said, it's a good home machine. You need a vacuum sealer as well (This weeks middle-isle offer in Lidl!), and a suitable sized pot/pan to use with it.

The stick works extremely well. I fill the pot with hot water, set the temperature and the time, and away we go. Brilliant for cooking medium rare steaks that are 53 degrees hot all the way through but remain juicy and never overdone. All you have to do is sear for 30 secs a side, and use the bag juices to make a pan jus with butter and red wine. I did a pulled pork once and that was great.

The only difficulty I had was finding a deep enough pot that wasn't massive in volume. The stick has a max and min water level and the min level is higher than most normal pans.

Regards

Ian

Wasn’t allowed to do it as a chef as the temperatures were waaaay too low to kill bacteria etc.

Depends on your temp. I cook my chicken breast at 60c for 2 hours, it needs less than one to kill the bacteria at this temp.

Ok. I got it. It works well and it's super quiet. The 15 hour pulled pork at 75 C was completely worth the buying price.
So far, I can highly recommend it!
