Re: Black Tap. Yet another US burger chain in Switzerland!

I really don't understand this gimmicky gourmet burger craze that seems to be so trendy now in Zurich. I have tried some and in the end they are all very similar burgers packaged in slightly different ways. There's only so much you can do with a hunk of minced beef.

I suspect it's a fad that won't last long enough to support all of this competition.

Re: Black Tap. Yet another US burger chain in Switzerland!

The other night I went to Burger Meister at Hardbrucke. For me it really is the best Burger in town. I know if you like McD and BK you would balk at the price of 17.00 for a Chilli Cheese burger and real fries, but I don't eat burgers at those places, Burger Meister is just about a real restaurant, they make the patties themselves (I read once they use a mix of rib and shoulder) and the fries are from cut potatoes, not frozen thin gloopy straws.

I'll try a Black a tap burger when they open as it's next to my bank, but I'll be surprised if they can beat the Meister.

Considering a Big Mac meal is 13chf, ithe icnrease to 17chf is not such a "balkable" price increase by Swiss standards. Heidi & Tell Burger Co is certainly more overpriced than that with bland tasting burgers.

However (im not trying to convince you im just giving my view) McDonalds still has its place... the Cheeseburger and Big Macs and McNuggets are all things I enjoy now and then and they do taste unique and the meat is better quality than many people think https://www.businessinsider.com/i-we...-into-boxes-10. Burger King cheeseburgers are also decent for a quick fix.

At least with McD's you know what you are gettng for your money and it is extremely consistent whereas I have tried some of these new gourmet burger places and come out distinctly unimpressed and unsatisfied.

Sacrilege!

Our whipped cream is made with vegetal cream.

Why? I mean, it's a milkshake for doG's sake. By it's very definition it's chock full o' dairy. And with those over-the-top toppings counting calories certainly can't be a goal. If you are going to have an artery clogging desert bomb, you might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb. Why fake cream then?

OK, being a dyed-in-the-wool Midwesterner of a certain vintage, the milkshakes of my youth were something sacred. A good milkshake needs no frou-frou, only top quality ice cream, milk, real whipped cream, and a marischino cherry on top. That's it. (Well, you could add two paper straws and the cute guy from chemistry class across the table...)

Ha-rumpf.

Now get off my lawn.
I donít disagree, but perhaps itís to appeal to the lactose intolerant?

I thought I saw a normal cheeseburger and fries on the Black Tap menu for CHF 17. Given the location, that didnít seem too bad. Itís only when you start looking at their speciality burgers the prices look a lot in comparison.

Slightly o/t I remember arguing with the owner of one of the Irish pubs many years ago because they priced their burgers and fries separately. Iím ok with paying CHF 20 for a burger and fries, but I donít want to be told that the burger is CHF 12 and the fries CHF 8!

That'll be fine if the patties are made fresh from good meat and not shipped in from a factory.

Considering some of those milk shakes contain 1600 calories and the average adult make needs 2000 to 3000 calories per day - they're a bit of a recipe for over-eating and/or type 2 diabetes.

People have told me that although they are 1600 calories, no-one actually finishes them - which to my mind is worse - what a blatant waste of food.

Tried it .. same old same old ...

I don't get it, I mean I like a burger, but how different can they all be?? I find most of the "gourmet" burgers to be very samey.

The only real variation i've seen recently was in a little independent place, in Thonon-les-Bains I think, or Evian?
You choose from the usual selection of cheese/bacon/onions etc etc.. Then the different part (for me) .. the guy opens the cooler and takes out a big tray of proper steaks and proceeds to mince one on the spot for your burger and season and cook it to your preference.
I need to know more details about this place, specifically the name of it.
