| | Black Tap. Yet another US burger chain in Switzerland!
I've never heard of them, but I saw their new premises in Zürich last night in Werdmühleplatz (where the singing Christmas Tree is) - not open yet though! They're already in Geneva and specialise in Burgers, shakes and craft beer (but their beer menu is very normal).
Anyone in Geneva tried them? Or knows of them in New York? http://blacktap.ch/ | This user would like to thank grumpygrapefruit for this useful post:

Tried it .. same old same old ...
I don't get it, I mean I like a burger, but how different can they all be?? I find most of the "gourmet" burgers to be very samey.
The only real variation i've seen recently was in a little independent place, in Thonon-les-Bains I think, or Evian?
You choose from the usual selection of cheese/bacon/onions etc etc.. Then the different part (for me) .. the guy opens the cooler and takes out a big tray of proper steaks and proceeds to mince one on the spot for your burger and season and cook it to your preference.

I think the spelling is wrong.
It's should be "crap food"
It's just my opinion.

I have to say, they must be putting a lot of cash into it. Their new premises in Zürich is not only a very expensive central location, but it used to be a fashion retail shop, and it's not cheap or easy to get the city to assign retail premises to gastro use.
I'm guessing it's one of the CH big boys doing it as a franchise. I'll have a natter around the trade and see if I can find out who's behind it!

Tripadvisor has many 5 star ratings, but suspicious wording. A few other comments about poor service, costs of extras (2fr for ketchup) and quality. Milkshakes from 7fr Burgers from 15.0, beers from 7 (33ml).
Poor value for money I would say. The cour de rive is not the cheapest rental in Geneva so prices probably reflect that. But for a burger and beer at 30fr?

Those milkshakes look ridiculous, even the website said they are made for the “Instagram age” - which translates to “we don’t care how it tastes, we just want to shock you with inedible shake sculptures for you to post on Instagram for free advertising.”

I've tried the gourmet burger joints. The main problem experienced being the burgers are so tall, you cannot get them in your mouth (even mine), and end up with a face smothered with sauce, often with juice running over your hands so you stink of burger, and any topping squeezed out the back and onto the plate.
The alternative is to deconstruct the burger, defeating the concept.
Give me Burger King anyday.

I have been there twice but only had a burger. I think they are really good. Better than Holy Cow for sure. I did ask for extra blue cheese sauce and i did get it, but i cannot remember if I had to pay extra or not.
Their shakes look ridiculous. I have never tried them but from what i could see, most people spend more time taking pictures of them than drinking them. And nobody ate all the decorations. So you pay a lot of money for a tiny shake and instagram likes.

Went in NYC last year on a weekend, as I was on a way to a Gallery and wanted something quick and easy (plus I had a hankering for some fries). Fine enough,
but it didn't wow me as such. Didn't go near the shake, I thought it was enough to glance over at the guy with his two young daughters who were 'sharing' a shake while he had a burger. Their giggles and selfies said as much.

Hope this would be better.

Sacrilege! Our whipped cream is made with vegetal cream.
Why? I mean, it's a milkshake for doG's sake. By it's very definition it's chock full o' dairy. And with those over-the-top toppings counting calories certainly can't be a goal. If you are going to have an artery clogging desert bomb, you might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb. Why fake cream then?
OK, being a dyed-in-the-wool Midwesterner of a certain vintage, the milkshakes of my youth were something sacred. A good milkshake needs no frou-frou, only top quality ice cream, milk, real whipped cream, and a marischino cherry on top. That's it. (Well, you could add two paper straws and the cute guy from chemistry class across the table...)
Ha-rumpf.
Now get off my lawn. | The following 6 users would like to thank meloncollie for this useful post:

If you serve hamburgers (made from cows) why not use (cow) milk products in the shakes? Sounds nasty.
Bet they don’t use maraschino cherries either. Cross them off the list.
