Personal Food Shipping Experience - CH to US?

Does anyone have experience shipping food from CH to US? Under normal circumstances? During the Covid19 situation?

Looking to send a box of veggies on a monthly basis to sisters.

Thoughts?

Best -- PJ

It's strictly not allowed under U.S. import laws.

From the 'fruit and vegetables' section of this page...
Quote:
One good example of problems imported fruits and vegetables can cause is the Mediterranean fruit fly outbreak during the 1980s. The outbreak cost the state of California and the federal government approximately $100 million to get rid of this pest. The cause of the outbreak was one traveler who brought home one contaminated piece of fruit.

California won't even let you import stuff from other states!

Hi PJSleep

How about setting up a monthly standing order with a 'local to your sisters' corner shop ? They could maybe even deliver the food & Veg to your sister, to save on postage.

Would just need US$ to be transfered !!

Good luck, its a lovely idea.

Re: Personal Food Shipping Experience - CH to US?

I regularly post perle de lait yogurt for my father back in the US, he is hooked on it. No issues and definitely not against the law, although it is slightly cheaper/faster to ship from France (I have tried both to assess pros/cons)

I have not tried since the pandemic but will try again this week - he's a senior citizen and this is one of his life's pleasures, so absolutely I accept the 30 CHF shipping for 12 CHF of yogurt.

And yes, it actually survives the transit and temperatures surprisingly well and I do not pack any cooling bags or dry ice

Re: Personal Food Shipping Experience - CH to US?

My last two shipments to the US took 8-10 weeks but I just received a parcel from my brother in Seattle and it arrived in 6 days for those curious on the status of the reverse route (US to CH)
