Where can I buy espresso powder?

Anyone know where I can buy espresso powder online (Swiss website)? I mean the kind meant for baking, not the instant coffee kind.

Surprisingly, I also can't seem to find any sold here in CH (according to the Google search I just did, at least). But apparently, you can make you own using regular coffee grounds and a coffee grinder:

Seems a lot of effort.

When I see that kind of thing, I just tip in a couple of spoon-fulls of freshly brewed and cooled espresso and reduce the liquid elsewhere if needed.

I probably will end up having to do that, in which case I'll use good quality dark oily coffee beans (I'll take recommendations!) for a shot of espresso.

Not physically, but I checked the websites and espresso powder does not seem to exist here.

Re: Where can I buy espresso powder?

Hi there.
First of all a couple of things to make clear.
How do you make espresso?

1) some people refer to home espresso to the one with a Moka/Bialetti coffee maker.
2) home pressurized filter basket machines (like DeLonghi manual espresso machines: most machines under ~400CHF)
3) proper espresso machines with unpressurized filter baskets like Lelit, Rocket, ECM, La Marzocco, Dalla Corte. Even some Gaggia affordable models are in this group.

NB. Most Swiss supermarket have a very nice Ditting professional coffee grinder at the entrance.

Solutions:
1) you can use general ground coffee, relatively coarse. Basically either you buy pre-ground, or you ask your favourite roaster to grind it, or you grind at the supermarket.
2) this type of machines is made to use pre-ground coffee (which is the norm in italian supermakets as most of the people use the Moka at home.) So same as above.
3) you really need a decent grinder. As you will need to adjust your grind size every time you change coffee. The standard is to grind so that you get a 30sec brewing time to get 2 espressos of approx 30ml [normally you weigh how much coffee you put in e.g. 18gr, and weigh how much coffee you get out in 30sec, typically you aim for 2x the weight of coffee or in this example 36gr].

Hopefully clear
Taro

Re: Where can I buy espresso powder?

For years Medaglia D'Oro was the espresso powder I used to deepen the chocolate flavor of chocolate cakes. Many recipes calling for expresso powder specifically called for that brand. But that was in the US, and I now see it's sold (and, according to reviews, often consumed) as "Instant Espresso Coffee" (vs. the King Arthur product labeled as "espresso powder"). Just adding this as a reference, and to suggest the possibility that, if "espresso powder" can double as "instant expresso," then maybe the converse is true, too, and a product like this or this can actually work for the baking you're doing.
