Farmy fish and meat in freezer, how long?

Hi All,

I ordered some salmon, chicken and beef from Farmy which was delivered a couple of weeks ago. However, I was so tired of cooking for myself (has been more than 2 months!), that I just ended up ordering some take outs or eating snacks.

My question: Is it still safe to eat the meat and fish if it's 1-2 weeks past their sell-by-date?

I put them in the freezer (~ -20 deg c), within 5 minutes of when they were delivered, and never took them out.

I feel bad about wasting food, when there is already a shortage in this world.

Any help appreciated!

best regards,
Alphag

Fish is probably ok for a year in a freezer and meat six months or so.

After that, the taste can be affected.

You'll have no problem after a couple of weeks in a freezer.

It seems to mostly depend on the fat contained, the less fat the longer it can be frozen.

Like, fat pig meat can be frozen for 3 months, non-fat 6 months. Chicken 9 months. Veal, beef, fish 12 months. Approximately and "up to", respectively, I find those 3-months steps easiest to memorize.

We had a beef fillet lurking in the bottom of our freezer for almost two years. It had been vacuum packed and had stayed sealed.

I carefully thawed it and cooked it in a slow cooker for a couple of hours. It was gorgeous!

I donít think frozen meat will ever go off, but the flavour could deteriorate depending on how itís been stored.

I agree. I had mince pork in the freezer for a couple of years. Made into meatballs. Mmmm..
