Where to buy rice bran oil for frying?

Hello everyone

I am looking to buy rice bran oil for frying. From Google Translate, it should be Reiskleieöl in German, but when I look up with this German term on supermarket websites, it only returns the rice bran oil for supplement dietary. Should I be looking for a more specific term or other marketplaces?

Thank you

Re: Where to buy rice bran oil for frying?

Wikipedia says: It is popular as a cooking oil in several South and East Asian countries, including Bangladesh, India, Japan, and China.

Look in a grocery store run by one of the above ethnicity or their neighbors as they usually not have only product from one place but from asia in general.

Re: Where to buy rice bran oil for frying?

It looks like it's usually referred to as just "rice oil" or Reisöl in German here. Or in Italian as Olio di Riso.

So I did a search for those terms but, like you, I wasn't able to find any for sale here in Switzerland (not the kind meant to be used for cooking, at least). But I'd be very surprised if you can't find it here. Maybe you could try the grocery stores at Jelmoli or Globus. They often seem to sell specialty items like gourmet and hard-to-find oils and spices, etc. Also, if rice an oil is something that is often used in certain ethnic cooking (e.g. Thai), maybe try a store that specializes in that type of food. I know there is a Thai supermarket in Uster, for example.

On Germany's amazon site, I was able to find some of the kind that is intended for cooking, and there are quite a few brands sold on there, but so far I can't seem to find any that ship to Switzerland.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Edit: Sorry, cross-post with Swiss-in-the-US. After I hit send, I realized we suggested the same thing.

Re: Where to buy rice bran oil for frying?

Was looking for rice bran oil as well and found it here (haven't yet tried it):

Rice bran oil has the advantage of a high smoking point as well as a fairly neutral taste (with a faint, pleasant nuttiness) that allows it to be used even in sweet dishes and baked goods without leaving an aftertaste.
