| | C/kantons with restaurants open at the moment (Covid)?
Just heard that restaurants are open in the Jura Bernois/Bernese Jura.
Is that true. Are there other C/K where restaurants are currently open?

Thanks Tom, a bit far to go for my big bro's 83rd BD.
Everything closed on French side, NE and VD. Jura Bernois would be easily doable if anyone has got a recommendation. Big Mara? Thanks.

Last I knew restaurants on the other side of the rostigraben were open for in person dining, e.g. Bern. VD and GE still closed for in person but most open for take out.

Yes, lots of restaurants here in NE and on French side to take out- but for such a big BD, we would love to take him out. Despite his great age, he is very fit and would love to go out.
Just announced that closures now extended to 6th of December here in NE.

Anything across the border in Bern is open.
As long as it is in canton Bern and not in canton Jura it’s fine.
I go to meet a friend for coffee in La Neuveville.

Why not head for the Lake of Biel (reservation mandatory, in particular too, if you want a seat with a nice view onto the lake) , Restaurants in Ct. Bern are still open.. I can particularly recommend
GOTTSTATTERHAUS, Neuenburgstrasse 18, 2505 Biel, 032 322 40 52
RÄBLUUS,Neuenburgstrasse 90, 2505 Biel,032 322 40 51
3 Fische, Hauptstrasse 29, 2576 Lüscherz,032 338 12 21
J.J. Rousseau, Prom. Jean-Jacques Rousseau 1, 2520 La Neuveville,032 752 36 52
a little less glamorous than the above, but yummy food all the same, is
Surf, Hauptstrasse 50, 2576 Lüscherz, 032 338 51 85

Rousseau closed at weekends- they recommended Zum Alten Schweizer in Twann? What do you think? Thanks.

The Bären in Twann is nice too.
There is also a nice place on the lake side in Ligerz but I can’t remember the name now.
I have always thought the ones on the lakeside as we drive into Bienne look quite nice (I think Eastenders mentioned a couple of them) but we have never been to those.

Ah thanks both- which one has the nicest view?
Honestly, I am beginning to feel middle-aged, with a brother 83 and one daughter pushing 50- blimey.

I know how you feel - about to turn 60 next year and wondering how that happened as I'm still listening to the likes of Bowie, Roxy Music, Elvis Costello and The Stranglers from the 70s whilst jigging along to K C and the Sunshine Band and disco. For anyone who's depressed by lockdown I recommend shaking like crazy to the B52s Rock Lobster in the mornings | The following 2 users would like to thank Cherub for this useful post: | |

Honestly, I am beginning to feel middle-aged, with a brother 83 and one daughter pushing 50- blimey. | | | | | Of the ones I’ve been to I would say the Bären in Twann or Aux Trois amis in Ligerz ( I remembered the name) have the best lake views.
Zum Altern Schweizer would be nice on the terrasse but not so good indoors.
I’m sure the ones on the lake nearer Bienne have great views too but the alps are not really visible from there.

Ah thanks- my big brother lives above Montreux and has the best view of the Alps ever from his balcony. So we don't need 'the Alps'.
What do you think EastEnders, please? Gottstatterhaus?

Oh another idea, if he's in Montreux, you could drive over Col du Pillon to Gstaad/Saanen.
In Saanen I know that the Saanerhof is very recommendable. I've been there again this year for a visit and worked in the 80s in the hospital and already then it was a very good Restaurant.
The alte Schweizer in Twann, I don't know personally.
Gottstatterhaus.... admittedly I am a tad biased, Daughter#2 did her chef's training there. They do all kind of fish dishes to perfection.
However, hubby and my fave is the Räbluus

Ah thanks again. He is coming to stay for a few days, so the Biel Riviera will be better for this time (84 actually, not 83, just realised).
Ah Räblus does look great- I think we will go for that one, Thanks.
