Lunch delivery options for ZH

Does anyone use services of a food delivery company? not many good restaurants in Zurich do lunch deliveries and I have never had the need to look for one until now.

I would like to hear your accounts and recommendations when it comes to one-of or occasional food delivery to the office for, say, not more than 4 people (waiting eagerly in masks).

do they deliver in boxes and/or plastic containers or is there anything a bit more 'upscale'? paper plates are fine by me, but there are circumstances where you just need a bit more than that.

so, if anyone has some ideas, I would love to hear them.

Re: Lunch delivery options for ZH

Check out the local restaurants? The Italian restaurant here offers a lunch service that can be delivered or picked-up.

Re: Lunch delivery options for ZH

Thanks! yes, heard and used the likes of mosi and diechi, checking local eateries, etc...

the problem is: lunching someone other than a mere mortal and looking for that 'je ne sais quoi'...

Re: Lunch delivery options for ZH

My friends who run the Markthalle Restaurant next to my shop in the Viadukt have just started a delivery service, I haven't tried it yet but I know the food they serve in the restaurant is excellent.

Re: Lunch delivery options for ZH

Actually there are also people who prepare food at their homes. If you know people living near to you who like similar food to you maybe you could ask around. I never ordered but did get contacts for a number of Turkish home-food cooks. I did eat once at a friend's place and while not the best, it was above Zurich restaurant quality.

Also some butchers prepare some semi-ready foods.

If you fancy some balkan-style pies this place is reasonable and have good service. https://volimburek.com/
I think their cheese pies/bureks are their best offering. Meat ones are not of consistent quality - sometimes good, sometimes not. Did not like spinach and never reordered.

They don't have "merdenele cu branza"! I'll pass. I can console myself with bureks, those from Migros and Denner are good enough for me...

@OP

On a more serious note, many restaurants are delivering food now. If I had a lunch with more pretentious people, I'd just order something from a couple of restaurants - Thai, Japanese, some Italian. Mix some stuff a little bit, have a choice for everyone.

Re: Lunch delivery options for ZH

Delivery only from 18.00. Shame... I am now drooling over the bone marrow - seems to be on the menu.
But thank you anyway - would never have looked there otherwise.

Re: Lunch delivery options for ZH

Lily’s have done delivery for I guess 20 years... they are the only ones I am aware of using reusable metal containers. You pay a deposit for the first one and then simply exchange it every time a new delivery comes.

https://lilys.ch/delivery/zurich

Ok have also ordered before from Himalaya Burger - both burgers and dumplings are good. https://www.foodbooking.com/ordering...=1605189541751

I checked out the Eat delivery app but found their prices too high as they seem to both charge for delivery as well as add something to the restaurant prices... so better check with restaurants directly. I walked through Kreis 5 lately and it seems that literally everyone is trying to deliver to make up for some of the vivid losses...

Re: Lunch delivery options for ZH

Right, I am back with my findings.
Firstly, thank you for the info - bar au lac - have not yet looked, but will do. sounds familiar...

I did a trial run with Negishi.
Online chat is a useful tool, however, info they give may be misleading. the person said they do not deliver hot snacks, but they actually do.
So, Negishi were on time, decent packing, including little saucers for soya sauce. Looked good, tasted good. But the tasters - our creme de la creme were not buzzing. and I understand that. however, I personally would order from them again.

Jelmoli do deliver, from 12.00. we ordered Nippon-Sushi food. The best way to order is to call Jelmoli Gastronomy department and order through them, not the vendor. Delivered on time, decent packaging. I was not there though for the tasting. The Gastronomy department rep was very nice and accommodating. a big plus. When I 'thicken enough' to become creme de la creme, i may order from them.

Huge thanks to all who put forward their suggestions. i would love to hear about first-hand experiences too - if and when you entertain special people.
