UberEats discounts

Does anyone know how the UberEats discounts are funded?

We rarely get takeaways, but fancy one tonight. I keep getting messages from Uber offering a CHF 40 discount on an order. If we order it will be from our local Indian restaurant, which is a) pretty good b) not open that long pre-COVID c) staffed by nice friendly people. I guess the order will c. CHF 80.

I know that (Just)Eat.ch and similar charge an outrageous amount to the restaurants to be on the platform and that Uber aren‘t exactly known for being fair to their drivers erm sorry independent ride sharers. Does anyone know whether Uber suck up the CHF 40 or whether it‘s the poor restaurant who are going to take the hit on this? If it‘s Uber, we‘ll happily take their offer, but if it‘s the restaurant (who realistically we won‘t use again for a couple of months or longer), I‘d rather find another way.

Have you thought about calling the restaurant? They may have another delivery option, or perhaps you can do a pick up. Uber et al creates a lot of suffering except for their executives. I avoid them ...

They are also on Eat.ch, which will take a chunk of change off them. Normally, I could and would go and pick up, but am over the drink/drive limit and it‘s a 20 minute walk, which is fine on the way there, but I don‘t want cold food.

I‘m looking for the least harm option for them while still being fed hot food. If the CHF 40 gets taken off the Execs‘ bonuses I‘m good with that, I just have a feeling that‘s not really how it works.

In the meantime I‘ve ordered directly off their website. I‘d have liked to have had a CHF 40 discount, but don’t want the restaurant to be ripped off.

Re: UberEats discounts

The situation is not necessarily binary. There are quite some possibilities, it could also be combined.
Uber Eats charge the restaurant for sure, but restaurants are also free to put any price for their food, doesn't have to be the same price with their own delivery or in-store.

This is why I saw thins like 20 CHF food from an Indian restaurant is sold 24 CHF on Uber Eats, so who is paying after all?

Yep, the same holds for many stores selling on amazon. Hence many times I order directly from the store - I get cheaper, they pay less commission - a win-win. I even give sometimes review back on amazon
