Re: Best Pizza

Best places around here are owned/run by Turks (30+ years) or Serbs (20+ years).

Really.

Would like to find out views on where to find the best Pizza in Zug, Lucerne or Zurich (we live in Zug but willing to drive to Zurich or Lucerne if it's worth it).
La Bestia in Lucerne is very good.
https://labestia-luzern.ch

In case you're interested, Valerio Nesci was voted Super Champion at the Pizzaiolo World Championships 2018 in Rome.

Who said anything about the crust? I guess that I shouldn't mention that I eat pizza with a knife and fork?
If there is a plate, you're safe.

I used to ignore the crust until a couple of years ago .. It's too dry and hard.. One day i i tried dipping it in some garlic mayo .. Total game changer..

Now salad cream I haven't tried but that's maybe one for this weekend.

Pizza for me is a balance .. Too wet and and it's horrible mush. Too dry and every bite needs some mayo.

I mean we're not taking about covering the pizza in mayo, just a little dip.

Edit .. Pix Garantee, 2 pizza for 1.55 chi .. Great. Add your own topping if desired . What's not to love about a .80c pizza..
The "oven baked" is missing.

Says the something something champion who’s okay with adapting NZ-style lamb knuckles on a pizza but abhors folk who like “toast Hawaii” once in a while…
Personally, I’d refrain from mayonnaise (the crust or whatever) dipping myself but wouldn’t advocate outright shooting these offenders either

on the other hand, why not? probably the same people looking for "English style" piadini

His kitchen, his rules, I guess.

I made the terrible faux-pas of asking for freshly ground black pepper for my pizza when I went to La Bestia and was swiftly rapped over the knuckles by my companion who's both Italian and a chef. Black pepper is only acceptable on pizza when integral to the recipe, apparently.

Fortunately, I wasn't excommunicated from the restaurant as I had abstained from pineapple.

Anyway, the pizzas at La Bestia were to die for.

When I make my own pizza at home I always grind black pepper on it (as it's integral to my recipe) and I often have pineapple on it as well. While this is not integral to the recipe, sometimes it's simply called for. My kitchen, my rules. I always make sure I'm out of range of any Italians or chefs, or worse, Italian chefs.

Ticino or Italy.
In general the further south you go in Europe the better the pizza gets until you hit Naples, but Zurich has good pizza compared to Germany and France. Notable shout out to Kytaly in Geneva too. Lugano Pizza is generally of a high standard, but I can‘t say it stands out compared to Italian.
Tom
OP in Zurich, I go to the following places with Italians and or Ticenese
Luigia (Neopolitan style and my favourite)
Il Golosone (super thin based and probably my number 2)
Don Leone (consistently good and also excellent ham and cheese boards that get better the more you know them).

You may want to try the Santa Lucia in the Niederdorf then. I absolutely loved their Calzone, but that's ages ago, no idea about today.

If you like Santa Lucia, there are a number of them throughout the area - near the art Museum in Zurich, Oerlikon, Winterthur, Schaffhausen. Probably other places. They‘re not all exactly the same, either.
