Re: Best Pizza

In Zurich: La Fonte at Probstei tram stop has good pastry but toppings are not of high quality... dough-wise is the best place I've tried in Zurich. But unfortunately, I haven't eaten a really good pizza in Zurich yet.

If you visit Lugano at some point I love "Bistrot & Pizza Argentino" even though I am not a pizza fan.

You may want to try the Santa Lucia in the Niederdorf then. I absolutely loved their Calzone, but that's ages ago, no idea about today.
Not too much of a fan myself .

Many of the local pizzerias out in the neighborhoods do a better job .

Too many tourists in the niiederdorf . They don’t need to care about customer loyalty or anything like that .

Re: Best Pizza

Pizza in Switzerland....phew, what to say.
Now, there is apparently and world champion or former world champion Pizzaiolo straight from Naples doing pies at a restaurant in Meilen. Here's the link: https://www.pizzerianapule.ch/

In my opinion, great pizza, not worth the exorbitant prices. Nothing more to say.

Other than that and I can already see people questioning my sanity here. . .Migros Take Away at HB sells some mean slices. Obviously you're not getting the whole restaurant experience. In terms of regular restaurants, it's a hit and miss really.

Re: Best Pizza

I make my own - I use the “Hellesurdinkel” flour from Coop or Migros to make the base - Tipo 00 i only ever see in Jelmoli / Globus and it costs an arm and a leg. I prefer thin crusts popular in the Rome / Castelli Romani area - I have yet to find a pizzeria in Zurich that does not serve pizzas with a soggy base.

Re: Best Pizza

My experience has been just about anywhere en Suisse, you can find an excellent Napoli style pie - the challenge has been trying to find the best under 20 CHF

Nevertheless, I am itching for a pizza oven like Gozney or OOni

Re: Best Pizza

There's a lot of immigrants from Italy, so not hard to find good pizza. However, these friendly places are not exactly a restaurant.

Visualize a place with 10-12 tables, half of them outside for coffee and cigarettes and they open from 10h00 to 22h00. There's no wood oven, just the normal electric one but they know how to make a good flour and dough mix. Of course everyone speaks Italian and there's a vitrine refrigerator with cheese, coppa and prosciutto you can buy to take home.

Places like this are the reason I'm learning Italian faster than Swiss German in Aargau

PS. Forgot one important detail: there's always a table with retirees.

Re: Best Pizza

I say any pizza without Ananas and ketchup is OK.

La Fonte at Dübendorfstrasse makes proper pizzas. And their Calzone is one of the best I ever tried.

Re: Best Pizza

Since I found this video, we have not ordered pizza anymore, as it is so easy and very tasty (incl. the Nutella one for dessert, not the Nicki version )! My partner prepares the dough in the morning, and we have it for dinner Love it!

Re: Best Pizza

migros pizza Can someone take a pic so this forum's SJS (The Special Judicial Squad ) can judge and give a note ?

I think how in CH,Fr, DE (to a degree) it's really hard to find good nice crispy but juicy not soggy , with a puffy edge, real pizza because the owners , either they're lazy or it costs too much to prepare all that (with pouliche ) dough and wood fired oven ...

Reminds me one of my best friends. He's over 90yr old and always told me that he's managed to have a long life due to eating a lot of veggies. Whatever is on pizza. Tomatoes basically, only. (I know it's fruit but in was not for majority of his life )

Now that I think of it, they made them in an uncommon way. Usually you get hardboiled egg inside a calzone, which is mehh. Theirs however was a fresh one, almost as if it was a pouched egg. That meant they had to have the dough "close" in the middle rather than on the side, with a hole left open through which they would crack the raw egg.

TLDR;
The picture on their menu card shows a calzone folded the common way so it's probably no longer special.

Re: Best Pizza

I know how brain triggers by visual stimuli, calzone for me is a complete herecy. Why hide all the goodness in a pocket of dry dough blackened by oven, on top. Sowy.

It is like eating with eyes closed
