Re: Breakfast

Once I discovered at resort hotels how for breakfast we can/should have champagne, prosecoo that was so tempting and such a revelation .. And I think it's no good if there was some drinking the night before )
but, it is really refreshing and nice with some lovely cucumber sandwiches to start the day and head to the beach right after

Alcoholics often have a drink for breakfast as apparently it reduces the hangover. Since I avoid hangovers at all costs, (I had one once & that was enough), it's not a theory I have tested.

Just answer the bloody question and stop fudging it
You were quite assertive in your promotion of Ďproperí food.

How hard can it be to give a straight answer to a simple question? Itís not rocket science.

What is a proper breakfast to you? What do you eat for breakfast on the Italian side?
There are various things

Capucho and pastry
Scrambled / Poached eggs
Avocado bread with eggs
Cereal or Yoghurt muesli with fruits
Omlet with wine tomatoes, salmon/spinach and cheese

Cold winter mornings when it's all gloomy and sad outside, I like a traditional japanese breakfast, warm miso soup, steamy bowl of rice, fish, leftover tamagoyaki, pickled daikon...

Attachment 142194

happy warm stomach before stepping out into the cold.

all other weather conditions, just coffee.
Looks amazing, warm soup is very good for stomach.

Sunny Delight in Scotland.

You are having a laugh, it would be Barr's Irn Bru, which is also the best hangover cure known to man

When I'm back in Scotland, on a Saturday mid morning there's nothing better than an Arbroath Smokie and some nice hot buttered toast. Yummy!

Youíre right, a full Irish always trumps a full English, no idea what the Welsh or the Scottish get up to in the morning.
Can't remember whether it was Wales, Ireland or Scotland but there was one holiday we had using several B&Bs where the breakfast fry-up always included fried banana. If ever there was a clearer example of "don't knock it till you've tried it" then this is it.

Am I ? I claim its ignorant to eat baked beans in the morning
Ignorant how? Beans on hot buttered toast with a generous drizzle of Worcestershire sauce is a dish fit for the gods.

It's healthy only if you're having breakfast and then work very hard, a physical work during the day. If you sit on your butt in an office, scrolling EF when you're bored and having another robust meal at noon (and maybe even a copious dinner at home), then no, it's not healthy.
Nothing unhealthy about a well-prepared fry-up with good ingredients. It gets unhealthy only if you have it too often. When I'm travelling in the UK for work, staying in hotels, the first morning's breakfast is always a magnificent treat. But if I have it on 2 or more consecutive days it's like walking around with a bowling ball in my stomach. So subsequent days it tends to be fruit and coffee with possibly some muesli (though both fruit and muesli are packed with sugar of course, so they're not much healthier). Here in CH we tend to have a full English (/Irish/Scottish etc.) once a week max on a Saturday or Sunday.

On face value English breakfast is junk food nothing more nothing less...
I'm outraged and profoundly shocked by this statement. High quality ingredients and loving preparation make an English breakfast a treat of the highest order.

I'm just saying in multicultural countries like Switzerland there are much better alternatives. Maybe I'm a bit biased as I'm on Italian side, I don't know how it's like on German side.
But you're still not conceding that "better" is highly subjective. What could be more dispiriting that the usual array of factory-made rubbery cheese slices and greasy processed meat that one tends to be confronted with on this side of the Channel? If you're in the UK and on a health drive there are plenty of alternatives to the traditional bacon/eggs/sausage/beans. And I'd suggest that no country in Europe is any more multicultural than the UK. You can have whatever the hell you want for breakfast. Which was the problem described by the original poster -- the fact that s/he was struggling to find much variety in Switzerland.

"decent English breakfast" is already as funny as it can be
Funny. I'm not normally one to say everything British / American is better (I'm here!) but in the case on breakfasts I would have thought it's a no contest. Even if you are veggie!

I fully agree with you and I'm not even British.

Breakfast 'round here is a sad affair - which is probably why most of us go without one.

And here it's not multicultural enough?

Sometimes I struggle to find Swiss people in places I'd really like to find them..
If this people/country is not multiculti and cosmopolitan I don't know what to say..
You can find everything you want here too.

the problem with UK is it has absolutely zero food culture outside of London.

What you said above is true for London (only in last 7 years tho).

The moment you go to some places like Leicestershire or Linconlshire, you have no options, well one option, that we are discussing here.

You clearly haven’t been to Leicestershire or Lincolnshire recently.

The ‘full English’ is a traditional breakfast but there are many other options for breakfast available in the UK.

I don't think that's true to be honest. You can get genuine Szechuan hotpot in my home city (Newcastle) for instance. As in my wife had to translate for me as the menu was only in Chinese (there was also a white persons menu with different less genuine food on it!). I've since been back without my wife and asked the waitress to help me with the translation. There's thousands of Chinese students in the city so naturally theres a market for real Chinese cuisine.

In some of the hotpot places i've been in London (best 2 are in poplar), the staff speak only limited English. Its very much catering for actual Chinese people.

Although I don't know it well, Leicester has a huge Indian population (I think the highest % in the UK), and I would be willing to bet you can get genuine regional Indian cuisine there. You can get delicious South Indian dishes for £4 or £5 in Tooting, SW London - which has a big Indian population. Would be 4 or 5 times as much here.

Switzerland has little in the way of quality ethnic cuisine (certainly at reasonable cost) outside Zurich (and possibly Geneva). Unless you count Turkish (which I like but would appreciate more variety). Certainly compared to the UK dining is limited, very expensive and almost exclusively European (which I personally find dull).

Don't get me wrong - I love it here, and don't want to ever go back. But not because of the food.

Re: Breakfast

Breakfast should be light, like strong expresso and cheese+bread. British frys are for after binge drinking, hence the country you find it... has no place otherwise.

We've discovered the problem here - it's your ignorance.

You never did let on where you came from yourself. So where is it?
