Organic meat and other bits...

Hi all

I hope I'm posting in the right place here...Can anyone tell me where I can get good organic meat (and organ meat...sorry, a bit gross for some, but important medically at this point) in Zürich? I know that CO OP has a bit of a selection but not on the organ side. Anyone recommend an organic butcher who might be of service? Thanks

Re: Organic meat and other bits...

If you do a Forum search for "Natura Beef" I did recommend a great farm not far from ZH Airport on a couple of threads that we used to buy from, we now buy BIO beef and lamb from our neighbours up here on Flumserberg

I have found organic calves liver at a big Coop, but have to say its the only organic offal I've ever seen for sale in a supermarket.

Shelby, a search on

http://www.knospehof.ch/de/

brought up 45 farms producing organic meat in the canton of Zürich.

Good luck

Re: Organic meat and other bits...

I came across Grumpy Grapefruit's post in the 'Complaints Corner' thread. That thread contains some useful stuff . . . shame it's stuck in that corner of the site.

As well as the good farm recommendations, does anyone have a good butcher recommendation for Zürich? I know about Globus, Jelmolli and the supermarkets . . . really I'm looking for small independent food shops. If you know London, is there somewhere as good as the Ginger Pig or Allens? In particular is there somewhere in Zürich that can offer rare breeds and game?

Hi Gastro

I know there is a very good butcher in Helvetiaplatz market on Fri mornings, they have some interesting stuff including Pata Negra pork - Jack is the real expert about the markets but I'm sure there is a good butcher at Oerlikon as well.
