Re: The cheaper Whisky.

Coop has an excellent Argentine Malbec (Santa Ana) for f9.95. Thats f7.90 during their frequent 20% off sales.

I've heard that in eastern europe Denatured alcohol - Wikipedia has only additives making it smelly and bad taste, but it's harmless as far an alcohol can be, because the consumption was so high that even the communist weren't so cruel to let stupid addicts die (or rather it was even farther looking calculation, what if a lot of people would become a burden on the hospitals, eventually die, and all the macro economic consequences).
It's the same here, Brennsprit aka Brennspiritus, the ethanol for your fondue burner that lets you avoid the superior paste, is denaturated.

No. The logic is, if you pay twice as much for wine from a particular country, it'll be around 2x better.
Only if you are an expert. Ignorance sometimes ha benefits:

The denaturing means adding something to stop it being pure alcohol.

Ironically because it's not meant to be drunk, most bottles don't seem to list the content, but it used to be methanol and now it is more likely to be isopropyl alcohol as that's unpleasant rather than poisonous.

If you want something closer to actual liquor, Putzsprit is about 40% ethanol, 60% water and some colouring - basically the same proportions as most whiskey!
