Jacob's Cream Crackers or water biscuits?

Can I buy these in Basel? I have checked Globus and they don't have them. I would like to try some of the cheeses here but would only do so if I can get the neutral taste crackers to eat the cheese off.

Try Fenwicks Feinkost, near Spalentor. They're an English import shop, lots of good stuff in there. Their website is terrible, though, but I've been in and they've got the stuff you're looking for, or close to it.

Re: Jacob's Cream Crackers or water biscuits?

most of the larger coops in Basel have Jacobs crackers, but Globus/Fenwicks have other brands of water biscults not owned by Philip Morris....

Re: Jacob's Cream Crackers or water biscuits?

We've got the Jakob's selection pack and the Carr's Table Water Biscuits...look here!

I think I've also seen Jakob's Cream Crackers in Coop before. Maybe only in the big Coop Shops.

Re: Jacob's Cream Crackers or water biscuits?

I'll second the notion that Jacobs cream crackers are indeed to be found in larger branches of Coop.

Re: Jacob's Cream Crackers or water biscuits?

Bringing up this old thread...

Where oh where have the Jacob's Cream Crackers gone? Have any of you seen them in the greater Zürich area, preferably bottom half of the Zürichsee?

They seem to have disappeared from local Coops, including the Seedamm MegaCoop in PfäffikonSZ and the Richterswil Coop, the usual place for Brit stuff. They are also no longer at Bettio, nor Valhalla in Einsiedeln, nor Manor Food in Rapperswil.

I'm getting desperate, these are the only thing that keep the nausea down...

So before I send OH off on a wild goose chase, reports of any recent sightings would be most appreciated.

Will do an undercover search tomorrow in Zürich. If they've disappeared from the shelves, then my days here in Switzerland are definitely numbered...

They disappeared from the shelves of the big coop here quite a while ago but they still sell them in the Manor here ( well they had some on the shelves yesterday). They have Carrs table water biscuits in Globus here too.

True, not even Coop at home has them recently (Brexit?).
I would (will) stock-up just incase, next to my salted butter in the event that Trump decides to push his button (at least I'll go down in heaven).

It was long before Brexit when they disappeared from the shelves in the coop here so we can't blame Brexit for that although I'm sure some people would like to.

Re: Jacob's Cream Crackers or water biscuits?

I bought some just before Christmas, the Migros in Thoiry (France) had loads. Might be worth asking if someone is going to one of the bigger french or german supermarkets that has a British section if they could look for you?

What about the plain Tuc buscuits? Are they a possible substitute? Denner often has them.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks!

Tuc biscuits have a sort-of-buttery flavor (at least to me), along with a crumbly texture (as do saltines and most Swiss crackers), where it's the bland 'substantial-ness' of cream crackers that somehow does the trick against nausea when little else will.

Oooo Matzos might work. Certainly the right degree of blandness. OH has been sent off scouting...

OH also went back to Manor Food in Rapperswil and found some Waitrose crackers that looked like a version of Jacobs, these might do work as well. But these are 50% off, meaning they are getting rid of supplies on hand, the product will no longer be stocked. Just my luck

BUT...

The helpful young gentleman at Manor Food said that he thought the Jacobs Cream Crackers were only temporarily out of stock, as far as he knew a shipment would be coming in 'sometime soon'. So there is still hope in the Zürichsee region... watch this space, if they do appear I'll report back.

Cracker nirvana, thanks!

Question to those in the know:

I see from that link that Sainsburys, Tesco, Waitrose all make a cream cracker - and at an attractive price. Are these pretty much the same as Jacobs?

Re: Jacob's Cream Crackers or water biscuits?

According to wiki a cream cracker is very similar to matzo crackers, but a cream cracker contains yeast. So in theory the Sainsburys, Waitrose, etc. ones should all be pretty similar.
I've just looked on Amazon.de and they sell multipacks of Jacobs Crackers, would it be possible for someone nearer to you to order some? Might have to be delivered to a German address though... afraid I don't understand german so I'm not sure if they'll shop this particular item to Switzerland, but might be worth looking into if you want to stock up!

Nope, according to amazon.de they don't deliver this to Switzerland.
We got this in Switzerland - different brandname - I know for sure but I don't know the name as it's not something I eat really. Someone will know when looking at the picture.
