Re: Pancake Recipes

How exciting - I'd forgotten about pancake day. As usual.

Rush to local Migros. It's shut. What? If they wanted to shut any earlier they'd need to open and then go back in time to cash up. Rush to local Denner. Shut. Staff inside behind locked door containing a notice which has too many s's in it.

Walk to main Migros. Still open! 10 minutes to go. Milk ... easy. Eggs ... easy. Flour ... is that it in the soft packet surrouned by packets of sugar? What the hell is Mehl? Feels like flour. Weissmehl? White-something. Has to be flour. Get home, check online. Phew. Flour.

Shopping back in London may have the opening hours, the better prices, and the variety, but you don't get that frisson of panic and excitement of knowing the shops could shut any minute and you might not know what you've bought.

Plus that power-walk to Migros has burnt off some calories. Extra pancakes for me!

pankake mix? why on earth would you need to buy a mix?
it's just flour, milk and eggs how much easier can it be
Unbelievable how some people are addicted to packet food.... The best pancake in my opinions are just lemon and sugar!

A total of five ingredients...

If you want something difference we also make Thai pancakes with banana and chocolate sauce! A few more ingredients but well worth as anyone who has eaten one will agree.

Just had a look at the recipe and it sound yummmmy

Am going to make it in the form of muffins tomorrow (see recommendation at bottom of recipe) for a kids get together (we'll have traditional pancakes for breakfast of course - gotta get your tummy full before lent starts right!)

Re: Pancake Recipes

You expect me to get up early enough to go shopping for pancake ingredients before breakfast? You're crazy. You must be a local.

I suppose I should clarify that for me pancakes are a breakfast food.

My favorite pancake recipe is Martha Stewart's Best buttermilk Pancakes:
http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/...akes-by-martha

it's a good thing

What do you use for buttermilk... I have tried the thin, brownish stuff called buttermilk here and found it lacking. I was thinking of some milk with lemon juice or a touch of vinegar added to sour it.

There's a white buttermilk in Migros next to the drinking yogurt. I stopped using buttermilk and just substitute normal milk because the recipe only uses half a bottle and the other half would always go bad before I got around to using it. Pancake mix without buttermilk also keeps overnight in the fridge too. The buttermilk recipe goes a brown colour after a few hours.
