Nope, not the same thing. Rice Krispies (on the left) crunch when you bite down on them, puffed rice (on the right) just smooshes. Got a bit of a spongy texture, like a rice cake but softer.

I'm sorry but I thought the puffed rice resembled maggots.

By the way, if I'm not too mistaken in my shivering delirium, Aldi does carry Rice Krispies.

Re: Marshmallows?

Spar carries both marshmallows (in season) and Rice Krispies.

I bought corn syrup from the American Market in Geneva, but my mom has substituted more liquid and sugar (for example, for a pecan bourbon pie, increase the bourbon and the sugar to make up the difference).

Coop carries Chocolate Rice Krispies, for a walk on the wild side.

Re: Marshmallows?

Next time you're headed for France, most Casino supermarkets sell Haribo brand marshmallows as well as their own Casino brand. Mmmmmm ...

Re: Marshmallows?

When I was visiting a few summers ago we picked up some "American" marshmallows at Aldi for our Aug 1st BBQ... the flavor was fine but they didn't hold up well to the campfire treatment (dripping off the stick ).

Do ya'll happen to know who has the best marshmallows for campfire use?

Also, if I were wanting to make smores, are there any local cookies / crackers with similar taste to graham crackers?

The ones bought from Toys 'R' Us here by a friend seemed to hold up OK recently at a BBQ.
