Your menu for August 1st

It is that time of the year again, and now we get to celebrate on a Saturday, which makes it even easier to set time aside to cook a great Swiss meal. What are your plans for this year's momentous occasion? Is anybody venturing outside Raclette and Fondue?

Re: Your menu for August 1st

Is our first - celebrating with Swiss friends, who are not big fans of the celebration. A small grill if the weather plays along..

August 1st being such an important day in history (namely the anniversary
of The Act of Union, thus creating the United Kingdom of Great Britain and
Ireland), I shall be celebrating at the Highland Games in Fehraltorf,
where I shall listen to proper music, drink proper beer and eat haggis and
deep-fried Mars bars.

Re: Your menu for August 1st

A rather lovely experience is to enjoy a meal "à la ferme" on August 1st in the Alps. Many farmers offer a taste of Swiss tradition.

Well, the music was by the Red Hot Chili Pipers,

the beer was Murphy's,

and the haggis, tatties'n'neeps were excellent,

Mission accomplished, I'd say!!!

...and I'll probably survive without the DF Mars bar.

Re: Your menu for August 1st

I chucked the first t-bone steak I've had in 10 years on a barbie. I was so looking forward to it, and it was delic, but I struggled to put it all away - they're huge!!! Don't know how I used to do it.

Re: Your menu for August 1st

I finally went with sausage (cooked in beer), rösti and sauerkraut, with inordinate amounts of beer to wolf it all down. The best part was having the whole family (kids, brother, sister, their kids, mom) around the table.
