Re: drought guiness for less than 9 chf in zurich?

Has it improved, can you seriously get a decent pint of Guinness in Zürich?

We get complimented enough on our Guiness in Paddy Reillly's and we sell a shed-load of it - have a fair few Irish regulars drinking it themselves and that's really the only compliment I need! They'll still say it's not the same as back home in Ireland, but they'll also say that about the Guinness you get in London, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Cardiff, New York or Bangkok. It is a slightly different animal!

The Guinness that's brewed in Ireland stays in Ireland, the Guinness you get in UK and mainland Europe is brewed in London so I'm led to believe.

Re: drought guiness for less than 9 chf in zurich?

On a similar subject, does anyone know where it's possible to get draught cans of Guinness or Murphy's close to Zurich and cheaper than the offerings from Coop or Le shop?
Beer wholesalers? Over the border?

..It's looking like my Paddy's day apero could get expensive!

Beers of the World (I think that is the name) in Zurich Mainstation should have it. Or try a local Getranke store if you get lucky it will be cheaper.

Joke or no joke - it wouldn't surprise me.

The following is bit OT and general, but as this is a resurrection of an old thread, wtf.

I once found some MGD in Landi of all places, and thought I'd try it (after 15 yrs of not having one).
It was like making love in a punt - and brewed in Turkey.

I think if you can find any authentically and original brewed beers (if you're lucky), then expect to pay for the privilege, and avoid "Brewed in X,Y or Z, under licence" - which normally means they're paying peanuts to workers to mix chemicals together and p**s in it.

One exception that I can think of is "proper" Budweiser Budvar (Czech Pilsner), which I believe is only brewed at the Czech brewery, and therefore tastes the same where ever you flip the cap - well nice.

One final thought: Heineken - drunk anywhere outside of Holland, it's dishwater; but absolutely the "dogs bollox" when sourced from the Amsterdam brewery.

They have Murphys Red and Guinness.

The Guinness is by far the best I've had in Zürich and comparable to well kept stuff in the UK, but naturally not as good as in Dublin.

Not any more I believe. Most of it comes from Dublin these days, but the difference in taste is accounted for by some difference in the process that is required by some EU regulation.

The Nigerian Guinness is not the draught stuff I believe but just sold in cans, and thus a totally different animal.

Could be I'm wrong, but this is what I've picked up from different sources.
