In search for the perfect sandwich

Hi all. I am new to the forum and would like to introduce myself. My name is Nils Mannerstedt and I am from sweden and I work as a chef. I work mainly with cooking courses and catering here in Basel. I am on a quest trying to find a good sandwich. Would like to hear from you. Regards Nils

Re: In search for the perfect sandwich

Hi Nils,

My ever favourite sandwich is one my mom makes for our birthday parties when we were little. Ok we ask for it still now .

Ingredients:

-White bread with no crust (for tramezzini) in my country it is called pullman
-Avocados
-Tomatoes thinly sliced
-Hard boiled eggs thinly sliced

You make a sort of guacamole but only with the avocados and the mayonaise, the mayo shoud be used in every side of the bread like this:

bread -mayo-avocado-mayo-bread-mayo-tomato(salt)-mayo-bread-mayo-eggs (salt)-mayo-bread...

Yes it is fatty but I love it, it is called triple. Youusually put it in the fridge and serve cold.

Re: In search for the perfect sandwich

An alive octopus sandwich.

You take what's on the plate there, the salad and the wiggly things and stuff it into a pita bread.
Just too bad Halloween is already over.

Although you might be horrified my guilty pleasure when I am in the UK is a "Fish Finger sandwich" but it has to have Worcester sauce on it

I cannot reveal my secrets.

Regardless, shouldn't the chef be the one coming up with the killer sandwiches.

Otherwise, visit NYC and Montreal for inspiration.

Re: In search for the perfect sandwich

1. Spicy grilled chicken breast (still warm), mayo, avocado, fried or hard boiled egg, tomato. Double decker on white bread. No bacon.
Bucket of tabasco to taste.

2. Meatball ragu, grated italian cheese mix, ciabatta, grill.

3. Cypriot pita, 3 table spoons ketchup mixed with one teaspoon mayo and one teaspoon worcestershire sauce, fish fingers stuffed in (pref. giant fish fingers). Serve piping hot.

Re: In search for the perfect sandwich

Subway test marketed this 'Dijon Horseradish' sauce a few years back.

It was a work of art on most subs. Apparently the 'Southwest' sauce was better and continued instead.

Strip steak quick-fried with mixed bell peppers and onion, jack cheese all wrapped tightly in a large piece of iceberg.

Re: In search for the perfect sandwich

Subway's Steak and Cheese sandwich with extra jalapenos is yummilicious.

But no contest as to my perfect sandwich though - bacon (the true blue british bacon, none of this Swiss bacon nonsense) and egg (runny yoke) sandwich topped off with tomato ketchup oozing out of it.

Totally artery clogging but so so good.

PS: great for hangovers too.

Gorgonzola, extra virgin olive oil, coarse sea salt grains and coarse black pepper. On a soft white bread of choice.

This sounds wild. Won't be able to resist that I'm afraid.

Ha ha, it's that random gherkin and/or slice of egg you find in sandwiches here. I've nothing against gherkin or egg but it's the randomness. You know they're in there, lurking somewhere, but where? And just when you thought you'd got away with it, BOOM, mouthful of egg or gherkin at the point when you were least expecting it. Who says Swiss food is boring

I got used to the egg or gherkin, but when I hit a slice of kiwi in a cold-cut sandwich---that was the limit.

Anything you make will for sure be better than any sandwich you'll find in Switzerland.
