Yeah, most of the ones I end up finding are as hard as a rock and leaving them to sit a week doesn't usually help The best ones I have found are the pre-rippened ones from Aldi... *yum*
The trick of finding good avocados is to look at the stem part. It should have just a hollow, like it fell off the branch it was attached to. If it has a piece of stem, it was picked too green, and will not ripen properly.

I learned this when I had Avo trees in SA. They would fall off the tree, and still be hard and green - but they detached themselves at their right time.
Keeping them for a few days, they would ripen naturally.

I choose them by this criteria, and they never fail me!

I'm sensing this is not the type of thread to look at when you're hungry. Unless you're some kind of food masochist.

Someone pass me a hankie please, I'm drooling.

Sorry, I missed your post at the time.

Can recommend Ribizli Sweetertainment (Facebook Link) who has just started decorating courses at Laughing Lemon premises in Zurich Oerlikon. If you can speak German, them Corana Ratering at zuckerdecor.ch is an alternative.

My first attempt at a Swiss "Apfelwähe" for dessert today... hope it tastes as good as it looks and smells
Sorry all, thought I would add the recipe link to the Apfelwähe I made. I made another one today and everyone loved it! (PS, I also add cinnamon to it and cook it at a lower temperature... 10min at 175°C and again for 15min-20min at 175°C.... Enjoy
