Eating out is expensive. Baked goods are not always affordable, especially if you have a family.

Can't wait to see what you have baked and cooked while living here. To get us started:

pseudo applestrudel, sugar cookies

That's fantastic, Pather!
Your little girl is very lucky indeed. :D

Here are a few savoury dishes I've made here:

Curry pouches, Berlin potato soup, Chinese roast pork (siu yoke), lacy pancake (roti jala)

those curry pouches look lovely! And just seeing the word roti has made me want a roti chanai. Not likely to find one anywhere nearby though! lol :)

Just for you, AthenaCarey:
(You can make your own roti canai using this recipe:
http://www.recipezaar.com/Roti-Canai...-Recipe-270723 )

roti canai, roti pisang (banana filled), cinnamon rolls

You can get said roti at any lankan restaurant. I even dared to buy some frozen ones last for the first time and they went very well with my prawn curry.

As for the standard curry sauce that goes with roti canai, no you won't get that other than at a singaporean/malaysian place; but prawn or fish curry sauce is pretty good too.

P.S. The (South Indian) type of roti you mention and pictured above is also called paratha in many parts of India (roti in Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia).

Google is really your friend. :D This person's blog came up:
http://happyhomemaker88.wordpress.co...e-or-siao-bak/

It looked pretty authentic, so I did what she said and it turned out fine 'cept my kitchen smelled incredible for a few hours.

Now you owe me some 'char siew' (sweet barbequed pork) when you next make some, OK?

Sweeeeeeeeeet! Now I'll have to hunt down some of those ingredients and the appropriate chilli to go with it (was thinking of the Chiu Chow chilli oil). Yum yum yum.

Right, I was thinking of something much more tangible.
Note to self: must be more positive.

Wow, these are impressive to say the least. Is is possible to order cakes off you directly? Do you have a website? Do you teach cake decorating...?? You have a student if you do...
