Your little girl is very lucky indeed. :D Here are a few savoury dishes I've made here: Curry pouches, Berlin potato soup, Chinese roast pork (siu yoke), lacy pancake (roti jala) |
Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland those curry pouches look lovely! And just seeing the word roti has made me want a roti chanai. Not likely to find one anywhere nearby though! lol :) little baby monkey breads http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos...4_366411_n.jpg |

Just for you, AthenaCarey: (You can make your own roti canai using this recipe: http://www.recipezaar.com/Roti-Canai...-Recipe-270723 ) roti canai, roti pisang (banana filled), cinnamon rolls |
Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland Quote:
Please? |
Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland Quote:
As for the standard curry sauce that goes with roti canai, no you won't get that other than at a singaporean/malaysian place; but prawn or fish curry sauce is pretty good too. P.S. The (South Indian) type of roti you mention and pictured above is also called paratha in many parts of India (roti in Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia). |

http://happyhomemaker88.wordpress.co...e-or-siao-bak/ It looked pretty authentic, so I did what she said and it turned out fine 'cept my kitchen smelled incredible for a few hours. Now you owe me some 'char siew' (sweet barbequed pork) when you next make some, OK? |

Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland I second Gwendy's post in reference to Crumb's cakes... absolutely gorgeous! Especially the second one - I would never be able to cut into it and find out how delicious it is, I'd just sit in front of it admiring its beauty. ;) |

The roti canai recipe link is given near the beginning of the thread, Rona. A Malaysian acquaintance here taught me how to make 'char siu' (Chinese-style sweet barbequed pork): Marinate overnight a chunk of pork belly or 'some other cut' in salt, soy sauce, sugar, 5-spice powder and a bit of Chinese wine (optional). Then roast in a 185 degrees C oven for 20-30 minutes or BBQ over glowing coals, basting the marinade over it once or twice in between. Other stuff I've made (if you want a recipe, just ask): mashed banana fritters (panfried kuih kodok), olive bread, cantucci (biscotti), chicken curry puffs |

Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland I love cooking but even I don't take pictures of the food I make. |
Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland Quote:
Awww, c'mon. Don't be such a wet blanket. There's no fire. |
Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland Here's another recipe for "char siu" and I've tried it out and it's yummy even without all the ingredients. The recipe says secret ingredient being maltose (sugar from malt?) Check it out: http://rasamalaysia.com/bbq-pork-recipe-char-siu/ The above blog is really good for other Chinese/Malaysian/Asian recipes too. Quote:

Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland 4 Attachment(s) A big thanks to all who joined in the game and posted the food they made in CH. Here are caramel cupcakes, cream puff, pancake with Johannisbeeren, lavash crackers with herb leaves. |
Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland Quote:
Thanks, Argus/WorldTraveller. I have no idea how to 'thank' that I see so many do under the next line of the post -can't find the link/click or whatever it's called. Just looking at food makes me happy **grins like an idiot** even if I can't taste it or try it yet (due to lack of ingredients at the moment). Keep them coming!!! :D:D:D:D:D |
Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland Judging from the cooking expertise here, I think one of you happens to by my classmate back in 1993, in Singapore hmmmm;). Then in that case, if you read this, can you please invite me over for dinner. ;);) |
Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland An interesting idea I saw the other day, for individual little home made breads ..... baked in small clay flower pots (new ones obviously, not them kakky old ones in the garden shed..hahaha)...... and set beside each dinner plate ..... I gonna try that - baked in the wood Kacheloffen - then I photo them for here ... maybe.... if my bread behaves itself..... I`m SO impressed with you guys baking and cooking!!!!! |
Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland What fantastic pics - Argus, your cakes are amazing, I like the look of your cinammon buns and the banana ones, they look sooooooo good:msntongue: |
Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland 1 Attachment(s) It's imposible to apreciate its taste in the photo, but it was superb. It's my firt swiss style Kürbis suppe. In the paste I used to bake the pumpkin and then to grind it with a bit of cream (It tastes very good too), but today I've tried to prepare it with potatoes, onions and mago in a pot with vegetables stock and then add the cream and some spcies (I found the recipe on the Internet) and a ginger cookie. Simply delicious: |
Re: Post photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland My pics are not nearly so elegant and I am rather a sloppy baker. However, I have made a fig almond frangipanne and a fig clafoutis with quark. |
