| | HElP! Pressure cooker top won't come off
I have a SBB Pressure cooker. I was putting on the top and it was apparently not correctly aligned but it is now stuck and I can not figure out how to take it off.
Under the handle there is a white device that has to do with locking, but clicking it back and forth does not help.
The ridges on the pot do not line up with the top holes for me to take it off. It is about 4 mm over and I can not force it into alignment.
There is nothing in the book about this problem.
Anyone have any ideas please!

Uncle Max, this was very expensive. I tried prying a little with a screw driver but It did nothing. If I hit it, then it won't be able to hold pressure if there is a dent..... And dinner is inside too!

If the lid isn't aligned correctly, you're going to need to force it off somehow, but make sure the pressure is released first, of course. Manufacturers recommend an application of olive oil to the rim of the pot before setting the lid on, to aid movement. They're awkward at the best of times. A strong bang on the handle should dislodge it after it's cooled a little. Perhaps try cooling the pot - not the lid - in cold water and give it a go.
What's for dinner?

you could always heat the lid which would allow it to expand and possible give it some clearance from the bottom thread!!

Can you post a picture? or mfg/model number? How does the lid (normally) fit on: do you screw it on, drop it straight down and then rotate it 1/2" or so to lock, have flip-up toggles around the edge to lock it...?

Run it under cold water at a tilted angle? It will hopefully release the remaining pressure inside. Avoid the vent and valves though.

It is a SEB Sensor 2. It has ridges on the pot and tabs on the top and the top screws on to lock. I am looking for a picture but only see the external.

You might as well give up and go to McDonalds, as a previous poster suggested.
Your tea is sure to be inedible by now.

You must depressurize it before opening... quickest way to do this is under running water. Don't worry about cooling the pot-but-not-the-lid or the lid-but-not-the-pot - just run cold water over the whole thing till the light goes out / pin goes down / gauge needle goes to zero.
Then try to wrestle the lid off...

There is a triangle indent near the handle that was caught on a ridge.
I iced the bottom and heated the lid with boiling water and using a screw driver was able to pry that indent over the ridges of the pot.
Thank you everyone. I know in the scheme of things this was not important, but you helped me and I appreciate it. BTW, Dinner was saved. It was perfect as the valve was open and all the steam had escaped, so it was just warm.
