In need of some local recipes!

I have some family coming over at he weekend and Id love to try and cook them something traditionally swiss. we have 3 children so I have not eaten out so I dont really have any idea of how swiss things taste!
My husband has a cooked lunch everyday at work and is always trying to describe what he had so I can cook it at home but needless to say his descriptions are not quite enough!

He talks a lot about parmesan polenta and a thick meaty gravy(that doesnt taste like Bisto) with meat, is this a special sauce? I have googled and lots of things have come up but Im not sure which he is on about!
I will also 'try' to do the Zürcher Geschnetzeltes but I dont want to do it with Veal (Im not keen on it) can I substitute it with pork or beef?

Any other local recipes you can suggest are more than welcome!

EFs own foodie writer to the rescue

You can subsitute the veal for chicken with Zürcher Geschnetzeletes

The polenta style menu might well have been Ossobucco Milanese

Pm me your email and I will send you a few english written, converted and easy to follow recipes from my online swiss food cookbook

Ok reopened my Sylv's Silver Spoon Yahoo group ( it served as an Archive for the past years anybody can join ....posts are moderated.

It has a few hundred recipes, which I translated, adapted, invented as well as almost all my NST columns about food and customs in CH and you can also do a search on the website .........so you'll find Züri Gschnätzlets and Roesti easier quite a lot of other swiss food stuff...
