Favourite Beers & Where to Find them

Hello Peoples,

I've seen plenty of complaints about Swiss brews and their poor taste. I haven't had much experience with them(except Feldschlossen), so I shan't comment (except that the aforementioned 'beer' wasn't terribly palatable).

I thought we could share some of our favourites on this thread, and perhaps were we might possibly find them in Switzerland. Here are my favourites, other than the bitter ales I tend to like mine dark, oaty, and stout:

http://www.beerstore.com.au/beerstor...kled_Hen_L.jpg

http://justbeer.files.wordpress.com/...ssippi-mud.gif

in that order.

I can't quite tell where to find these yet, but will post if I can find anything.

I also enjoy Banana Weissen (Banana juice and Hefeweissen) on a Summer day, but I've asked at every bar i've been to in Zurich (5), and people just seemed perplexed. The German border is not that distant!

If anyone has purchased these beers, info on where to find them would be much appreciated.

Beer recommendations welcome. Pictures and a few words about the beer would be appreciated too....

Threads are useless without pictures.

Mr husband is quite keen on "Les Trois Dames" which is brewed in Ste-Croix. I believe it is quite strong;)

If anyone ever finds Marston's Pedigree anywhere in Switzerland (Ticino, Geneva, Scuol Tarasp - I'm willing to travel) I would be eternally in his debt.

Not sure if it is Mort Subite, but you could get Kriek in larger Coops both in Cherry as well as Rasberry.

I never noticed these beers. But the places where I've found the widest varieties of beer are

-Drinks of the World
-Jelmoli Market
-Some Globus Markets

I used to love Pedigree and it was my favourite beer at university. I also used to love the Marston seasonal ales.

It all went downhill when they were taken over by Wolverhampton and Dudley though . . .

Yes but I will never buy it there, because for me, real Kriek has to be corked

Re: Favourite Beers & Where to Find them

In terms of Belgian beers, some that I'd recommend are

- La Chouffe
- Chimay
- Kwak

In terms of places to drink them, I recommend Old Gregory's on Langstrasse. They have more than a hundred beers in stock. The manager is a guy from Ticino and he is extremely knowledgeable on beers and more than happy to advise so if you tell him what you like he's pretty good at advising other stuff you might like. He has beers from all over the world and is a walking beer encyclopedia.

Best thing is to come in on a weekday when there aren't many people around so he has time to talk to you about his beers.
