Good Gelateria in Zurich?

Missing home is also this: the sun shines, and your stomach right away thinks that is time for a great Gelato.
Can anyone recommend a good one here in Zurich (italians opinions are very welcome!)
Thanks and enjoy the sun today!

Re: Good Gelateria in Zurich?

Is it sacrilegious to suggest Moevenpick in Bellevue?

... or Dieci in the Niederdorf?

Re: Good Gelateria in Zurich?

Cafe Carreda on Josefstrasse make their own. Sunday mornings are so much easier with decent Italian cafes.

There used to be a great one at the station in Dübendorf. Don't know if it is still there...

I'd recommend Toscano Ristorante‎ (Schmidgasse/Limmatquai)
and Leonardo up at Sihl City. HTH

Re: Good Gelateria in Zurich?

Try the one at Positano restaurant (central). It's Italian way...
Btw the pizza is also pretty good (the pizzaiolo is from Napoli)

Re: Good Gelateria in Zurich?

There is one within Sihlcity, I think it's called Leonardo.
Ice cream is relatively nice.
(Cappuccino was horrible, though. And they have a knock-off of Illy caffè which is called Jlly)

Good Gelateria in Zurich?

In the Letzipark shopping centre opposite Coop, it's called CremAmore. Very yum!

doesn't really exist. the only one I know in Zurich is Dieci in Niederdorf. It's fairly ok, but prices are ridiculous. There's also Mövenpick, quite good but even more insane price levels.

If that place was closer to where I live, I'd be ginormous in five minutes... Really yummy and incredibly good value, sadly underground but I go there whenever I'm in Letzipark.

Re: Good Gelateria in Zurich?

The only good ice cream is gelato, that is, following the Italian production method. It implies though, that the ice cream will last only a couple of days in good edible condition. That's why it is prepared on the premises rather than transported by truck.

The other style, the American let's call it, has much more air pumped into it, and a larger % of the solids made out of fat.

The flavours are just not comparable.

I'll give a try to the gelateria of Uncle Max.

well, in reality a lot of small gelaterias will actually buy instant mixes rather than make everything themselves. Some of them are so good that it's nearly impossible to distinguish from a real "artisanal" ice cream. One of the larger manufacturers is http://www.mec3.com/ for example.

Re: Good Gelateria in Zurich?

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
Today I tried a cono Nocciola and Pistacchio at Positano Gelateria, also known as "Amore mio". It is 5 CHF per cono or cup with 1 or 2 flavours. It is quite good and I suggest everyone who likes italian style ice cream to give it a try.
The owner is italian!

Re: Good Gelateria in Zurich?

The best one is in Thalwil, just down from the main strip of stores. It is called Cafeteria Gelateria. I tried tons of places in Zurich and this place is by far the best. It puts Dieci to shame. It is home made (althoug it is not clear if it is done in the shop or brought in) so they do occasinally sell out of some flavours. A small cup with 2 flavours is 4sfr and well worth the trip if you are anywhere close by.
