Bacio restaurant near Johannitebrucke, Basel

Does anyone know this little bistro called Bacio that I saw from the number 11 tram on the weekend? Just moved here and thorough exploration hasn't happened yet - too hot!! - but I want to invite some Swiss friends to dinner and thought it looked nice in passing. Any other thoughts of where to go in the general area between Johannittebrucke and Voltaplatz? I want to go somewhere in my area rther than into the city.

Cheers, thanks.

Re: Bacio restaurant near Johannitebrucke, Basel

Sorry Pam, I'm unfamiliar with that and other "nearby" restaurants... usually my m-i-l takes me to restaurants a bit further away, the only places we've eaten together here in Basel are the deli / cafeterias attached to Migros, Coop and Manor.

I know a few folks live in that same general area, hopefully one of them will have tried it AND will pop by to offer an opinion.

Re: Bacio restaurant near Johannitebrucke, Basel

OK, It is very near to my place so we have gone in total 4 times. The first time it was nice, we had just moved there and even thoguh the waiter (the only one) was weird the food was nice. Second time we go at 5:30 and the guy says (same waiter) well you can only have salads or ready made meals because the cook is gone, they had the tabuleh so great I love it. Third time same story about cook being gone we ate soup and bread and a sort of quiche, it was good we left. Fourth time, you guessed it no cook so the guy again wanted to make us eat what was left, we left....It is an OK place if you go early OR if you want to let the stupid waiter (who by the way is a rude and makes faces when you do not speak perfect German) decide what you will eat that day...I promised my husband we would never go again even though it is two steps away from our place

PS: So if it will be dinner you want to haave (like after 5:30 pm) go someplace else really...

Re: Bacio restaurant near Johannitebrucke, Basel

I went for a walk along the street today to look at the Speisekarte at Bacio and I have to say it didn't really appeal! So I have decided against that one. And yes, it does close early doesn't it! I had a look at Gatti's, it looks OK, few of the others seem to be closed for holidays. Or we'll just go somewhere in the city....guess we won't starve!

Thanks for the input!

We went to a restaurant near the St Johan's tor, it is in the corner of the tram stop, one of the best pizzas I ever tried, really recommend it

Oh yes, I saw that one today too (right on the corner?) and the menu in the window looked pretty good as well, so maybe that should go on my list too! Thanks Angela!

It is sooo good I had the vitello tonnato half a serving and it was huge, only ask for one dish otherwise... the pizzas are massive I tell you!
