| | Authentic Chinese restaurant in Zurich?
I am looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Zurich, that serves real Chinese food (not the westernized version of it) and has the space to host a group of 15 people in a separate room/space.
Food wise a good match would be the "Beyond", but they have no separate room. Can anybody recommend something else in Zurich?
Thanks in advance

Good luck! I've been here for 5 years, after living in SF and Amsterdam it's been hard adjusting to no chinatown.

Beyond near HB is, I believe, authentic Chinese. http://www.restaurant-beyond.ch/
Not much to look at from the outside but the food is good.

I need really good fried rice, which you get in India. Not these oil soaked ones. Take away will be great as I am a small eater.
Thanks

Angkor at Puls5 does pan-Asian, and may be able to give you a private area. I have taught them to do some of the Chinese dishes that I like, so if you speak with them in advance, they may be able to help you. Best thing that I have found in Zurich...after I told them what I want.

I know this thread is old but, I was at a Chinese restaurant a few nights ago with a Chinese friend and it was the best Asian restaurant I have ever eaten at. I trained as a Japanese chef, so this was an amazing find. My Chinese friend said it was very authentic, Shanghaiese/Szechuan food. The owner was from Shanghai and served us as well as large table of 20 Chinese diplomats (so groups should be no problem. It was a really great experience and I would highly recommend

Hi everyone, I realize this thread is a bit old, but i can also really recommend the duck at a restaurant on Langstrasse, and I think they may have a private room for renting.
Langstrasse 11 (I think it is called Suan Loon, but according to google it is called 'Restaurant China Restaurant')
Enjoy |

Still, all reviews point to being the best in town, so I'll stop by at some point and see if they do xiaolongbao (or if really hyphenated, I could get xiaolongbao and tea-smoked duck, a blasphemous, mouthwatering idea). Hell, I'd be happy with a decent Dongbei (Sichuan if I must) hotpot - I've not had a single passable Chinese dish in Europe...
I will let you know.

It's little bit streach, located in Adliswil. However it worth to go. We enjoy home-made HK style dim-sum there. http://www.restaurant-zen.ch/ |

Hi Anshui,
I can't recommend one in Zürich BUT I can recommend:
1. Restaurant Hong-Kong, Zollstrasse 22, 5412 Gebenstorf (right on the Reuss River) I couldn't find a webpage but I did get the tel #: 056 223-1362
2. Huang's Garden (on the Rhine, in Germany right across the boarder from Zurzach) http://www.huangsgarden.de
3. City Wettingen, China Restaurant & Hotel ( http://www.chinacity.ch/).
All three have good food, nice decor and space.
Enjoy!

Just tried Beyond.... it's authentic. Had xiaolongbao, jiaozi, yuxiangrousi, mapodoufu and a few other dishes with a bunch of fellow ex-China hands. German menu is for people who think green curry is Chinese enough, English/Chinese menu is the real deal.
Expensive for what you're getting (10.5 chf/4 xiaolongbao!!) but it's the real deal. Mapodoufu plenty mala, XLB and jiaozi good but the wrappers were IMO a little thick... but still. Worth it for real Chinese food cravings.

there is a Gao restaurant in dietikon. i think it is better than beyond. beyond is also for western people, not really authentic.
Luo (shanghainese restaurant) in zurich is also pretty good.

I personally recommend an authentic Chinese restaurant, below is the information,
weibian restaurant & take-away
Weststrasse 146
8003 Zürich
Telefon: +41 43 333 42 17
E-Mail: info@weibian.ch http://www.weibian.ch/
The special thing for this restaurant is the Chef is from Beijing and specialized in Northern Chinese food ( not sweet Cantonese things ). This place is quite new, the owner only just took over the place which was a Shushi shop.
Hope you will enjoy

Luo (shanghainese restaurant) in zurich is also pretty good. | | | | | Beg to differ about Beyond - the German menu is westernized 'Asian' food, but the English/Chinese menu is very authentic. Limited, yes. Pricy, certainly - but definitely the real thing. I lived 8 years in China (Haerbin and Shanghai), ate local, worked as a food reviewer and wrote for the guidebooks. I know real Chinese food when I eat it.
That said, it's not the best Chinese I've ever had by a long stick, and I'd rather they were a little less stereotypical in their choices - but for where we are, and what passes as Asian food around here, it's miles above.
@logout - will try that Dongbei place you mentioned, haven't had gou bao rou for too long.
As for Luo, we'll see... I'm very suspicious of hotel restaurants, as they by nature tend to the middle ground. It's supposed to be pricy, but it can't be worse than 10.50 for 4 xiaolongbao! (I hope)
Edit: @logout, I checked that place's menu and most of what they serve is generic Asian, not Chinese and certainly not Dongbei... only redeeming feature is hotpot, but that's 45 CHF/person! You don't work there, do you?

Occasional_Canadian, lol ofc I am not working there but I talked with the owner when I ate there, she was not confident to put those things ( such as Beijing HuoGuo) on the menu as she worried the locals won't appreciate those. The best thing to do ( if you have been living in China for 8 years ) is talk her over phone and try to order something really authentic from Beijing, i.e. Zhajiang Mian, I promise you will be surprised.
Further, I heard there is a small Taiwan restaurant nearby but haven't found the place. | Quote: | | | | | Beg to differ about Beyond - the German menu is westernized 'Asian' food, but the English/Chinese menu is very authentic. I get the whole 'local tastes' thing, which seems to make green curry Chinese by default. My cravings- real hotpot (Haerbin style, but I'll be bringing the fixings back when I go soon), goubaorou, good shuijiao, XLB and proper Xinjiang food (lamian and chuanr, I'm lowbrow that way)
I'll give it a try |

This place is alright...real HK style with a guy doing miracles on the wok within a blink of an eye. https://foursquare.com/v/4food/4e16e4db2271881f20502817
It seats plenty of people but it's a cafeteria setting and only open during lunchtime. The hot sauce is a real burner!
