Yeah, lots of discussions and recipes. Not found any shops selling them, maybe it's my bad... Checked in Jelmoli and Globus, no luck. Closest I got was Sihl City Coop, where they were selling english muffins and bagels...no crumpet for me though...

Any chance that the British Cheese Center would extend its wonderful profile of cheeses, chutneys and crackers with the humble crumpet? ...have a another "C" in the repertoire...lol

...munching on some vegemite muffins for the meantime.

Re: Crumpets?

Coop has just started selling a product called Toastbrötchen made by the German company Harry-Brot GmbH. They are similar to what we have in the States called English Muffins which are based on crumpets.

Re: Crumpets?

I am sure you will have to make your own, unless you can wait for a special delivery. The recipe looks easy to me,

If you mean the type with the holes in (as in Oz, different to UK ones I believe) then yes, they are easy to make. I made them many moons ago.

Re: Crumpets?

Crumpets. A memory of childhood that I can't stand as an adult. Enid Blyton did a hell of a lot for crumpet sales.

Re: Crumpets?

Excuse me in advance for this (probably) stupid question. I'm Dutch, so I never heard of it: what is a crumpet? I know muffins, bagels, but crumpets...

I mean: when people make so much effort to find them, they must be yummie? I wanna know!

Me too remind me of Sunday afternoons and Songs of Praise!

Re: Crumpets?

When I was a kid I rang up the telephone information and asked if they knew how many holes were in a crumpet!
I was thinking of making crumpets commercially. A good business maybe-get the Swiss hooked on crumpets!

Re: Crumpets?

UPDATE:

While there is no official place where you can buy these suckers, I have been informed that there is an existing black market for the addicted.

I've contacted my dealer, hoping to score some next week. Don't ask me who he/she is, or where is he/she getting the supply from. I'm not a snitch, but I'll give you an update on the quality later. I just hope that I won't overdose...

Re: Crumpets?

You only need to discover something better than crumpets, to forget them.

PS: Bet your first reaction is "nowhere in earth is there any better thing that crumpets". ; - )

Re: Crumpets?

Another recipe for the die-hard crumpet fan:

http://www.food.com/recipe/old-fashi...ea-time-421076

(yeast is used as the rising agent)

... and I think best served with honey, although Golden Syrup is equally yummy (I found Golden Syrup once in Coop but never again...)

well I'm not your supplier but I do have a large stock of crumpets (Mothers Pride) in the freezer .. for all those travelling to the UK, they do freeze very well and last for months and months. I freeze them before sticking them in the suitcase and then pop them straight in the freezer when I get back home this end. I admit in summer, they may defrost in the case whilst travelling so technically I am freezing them twice, which obviously you should never do , but none of us have suffered any ill effects and travelling with them frozen/semi frozen means they don't squash/disintegrate so easily. A very worthwhile addition to the "stock up when next back home" shopping list ...

I have also made them using the Delia recipe mentioned above and the results are surprisingly good.

Re: Crumpets?

I too have been searching high and low for Crumpets. We have moved from Hong Kong to Switzerland and I could find them in Hong Kong, but not here
Might have to try the recipe for these, but I can't imagine they taste better than the real deal!
