Black Pudding

I am looking for a good black pudding.

Where do you get yours from? How close is it to good english black pudding?

Re: Black Pudding

I get mine from across the border in Germany [Supermarket in Weil am Rhein].

Its not bad... but not great either. Not a spot on the stuff from Stornoway [queen of puds], but satisfies the cravings for now...

Have a try at Blutwurst. Doesn't have the bits in and is a lot softer than a black pudding but tasty nonetheless. Now is a good time to get them as they are often served at Metzgete but I've also got them at the meat counter at Coop.

Dodgyken,

You can always order it online through a company in the UK who ship to Europe. www.youririshshop.com
The best blackpudding in Ireland - bet you a blackpudding you'll like it. I've grown up on the stuff.

Re: Black Pudding

In Reinach (BL), there's a butcher called Jenzer who sometimes has home made Schwarzwurst (not blutwurst) which is very similar to British black pud - although meant to be eaten cold (I suppose you could grill or fry it, but I have not yet tried that).

I quite like it, my wife (Swiss) loathes it

Does it come from my nearby (in England, not Switzerland) town of Bury?

Also, the town where I grew up has an unusual annual event....

I'm afraid I don't know where it comes from.. but funny you mention this... I watched over the weekend a "Hairy Bikers" episode in which they were the celebrity guest contestants in the pudding toss. ( guest tossers? )

It was the gravy wrestling that was the last straw!

Re: Black Pudding

The way I understand it, Swiss and French black pudding is made out of 100%, whereas in the UK it includes a fair proportion of cereal- hence the totally different texture.
