Speaking at a dinner on Thursday night he (Cameron) also revealed the lengths that Prince William had gone to to convince Fifa members to vote for England. “I met Prince William coming out of one of these meetings and said, ‘how did it go?’ He said it had gone really, really well. I said, 'gosh how did you do it, what did you offer him? An invitation to the wedding?' He said, 'Prime Minister, I went so far I think I offered to marry him'.”
Finally we have a credible explanation for the failure of the bid.

Re: FIFA World Cup 2018 Announcement

This is an interesting point; if FIFA were so determined to grant the WC to nations, who have never hosted before, why did: a) England and others bother with a bid in the 1st place, and b) FIFA allow the bidding process from these nations to proceed?

Can the losing nations ask for their money back from the heaving FIFA coffers?

To make it look fair? Brazil got the 2014 Cup 'unopposed'

Good point!
FIFA could have saved people a lot of money by stating that criteria months ago (I they had been `pursuaded` at that time of course).

Like a friend of mine posted on Facebook; Putin didn't need to come to Zürich in person, he does his shopping online

Interesting article about how the voting went.

The criteria they have talked about is rubbish...if they wanted the WC to go to "New" countries then why no love for Australia?...also is putting the World Cup on in a tiny country with a small population really the way to spread the game?

Qatar is going to burn more fossil fuel cooling those stadiums than was used in the Industrial revolution, yet apparently everyone loved the Green bid from Belgium/Holland.

Re: FIFA World Cup 2018 Announcement

Sepp Blatter's being investigated by his own organisation FIFA for knowing about cash payments (bribes):

about bl**dy time. Though I doubt it'll amount to anything.
Move FIFA HQ to Britain the home of football. Let the Brits get the kick-backs

I think this is hilarious. Basically Bin Hamman has been caught and he knows it, so his response to Blatter is "if I'm going down, I'm taking you with me".

Finally.
