Snooker has always been a popular sport in the Far East, and perhaps the critical mass gained there over the last 10 years may see control of the game going East too ?

What with an Aussie being World champ (...and on continued brilliant form) , it seems like Snooker may go the way of Rugby and Cricket and thus dominated by players on the wrong side of the IDL.

Is Snooker waning in the West ? Not many 'interesting' players around, Ronnie doesn't give a hoot whether he wins or not and we haven't seen entertaining players for years...

...and what happened to Power Snooker ? Fizzle...

Snooker witnessed the birth of a new star, the winner of the China Open!

After 18 frames of a good snooker, Judd Trump celebrated over Mark Selby, the final result was 10-8 in frames.

Congratulations to Judd and wish him a good party against Neil in Sheffield!

I don't know much about Snooker, but a fair bit about China. And since I have spend some weeks with the in-laws where hardly anybody could talk to me, I have seen a fair bit of Chinese sports Tv

They are into different sports than other countries:
- as expected is table tennis really big, so is badminton
- basketball, this grew extremly big after Yao went to the US
- football, but clearly not as number one. Women's football has a significant share much unlike Europe.
- snooker. It is really big. No idea what is the trigger, I personally believe it is culturally: Most Chinese do not really enjoy to work out. They do however love to drink and especially smoke... I haven't seen any other country in which smoking is still not only normal but basically expected from a man.... so it is the ideal sport for them
