well that didn't go to frigging plan did it now? ireland were excellent, we were rubbish, 'nuff said.
Had to tolerate an aussie and an a swissie (both friends of mine and former rugger team-mates) cheering for the Irish. Team doners cleared the air though
That went exactly to plan, it was the Ire V Fra and Ire V Wal that did not go to plan

Re: Six Nations Rugby!

I was amazed at how high tackles are apparently now legal in the professional game! *grumble* stupid ref etc *grumble*

However, that aside, we still won overall so therefore I think that secures us bragging rights.

No, it doesn't. Getting totally spanked in a grand slam decider loses you all potential bragging rights you had previously accumulated

Have to say, sadly, that I agree.

More than anything it was the manner of the loss that severely limits the bragging rights to "well, at least we won the 6N".

Another silver lining to this dark cloud, though, is that at least the team ended on a negative note, i.e. if this had been a penultimate game and we'd won the 6N next week, say against Italy, then the mind-set would have been much more positive. In turn I think this would have had a negative effect.

Just thinking back to the now - infamous - interview of Borthwick post a poor performance against Italy saying England had played well... The team, I think, are less satisfied about losing than in the past. Part of Johnson's drive that wining is the goal and anything short thereof is not good.

I also think that they won't develop a complex about Ireland for next year's 6N, as there's the world cup in between. The team that takes to the field in next year's encounter, although I guess it'll be at Twickenham (and the run of home games at Twickers won't be as favourable next year), will be better for a few more caps.

We will have to agree to disagree on the definition of being "spanked", other than by officials....

Re: Six Nations Rugby!

A few thoughts:
  1. Great tournament as always.
  2. Scrums are such a mess
  3. Put-ins to scrums are generally crooked
  4. So many passes seem forward
  5. The Southern Hemisphere teams don't really have too much to worry about...

Do you actually know anything about rugby? Or are you content just to slag England off at any conceivable opportunity?

Contrary to your misguided barb, I think at times England played some of the most entertaining and intense rugby of this year's 6 nations.

Re: Six Nations Rugby!

Just to get my Irish 2 cents in to contradict the clown slagging english rugby above....

England didn't show up on the day but were easily the most consistent and entertaining team this year and thoroughly deserve the championship. In fact, the young team getting a sharp lesson like this is likely to be the best thing that will happen them - they will now be far better prepared for their next big event which bodes well for a few good english performances in the WC. So congrats to them.

Ireland prove that they still have the talent but are being mismanaged somewhat with selection policy not seeming to have any coherent pattern. One or hopefully two big performances in us for the WC but hard to see us holding form throughout the competition.

Hard to see the Southern Hemisphere quaking in their boots but rugby more than any other sport comes down to 'on the day' - just ask the kiwis in the previous world cups....

Do you? Obviously you are getting quite upset so we will leave the reviews and comments to the experts in the game.

Well considering I played rugby for 20 years, I would say I probably do. For your information, England scored the most points and scored the most tries this year. I would also hazard a guess they kicked less from hand than any other team and made a fair share of clean line breaks (I'm sure you know what that means).
Could you please enlighten us as to why you think England "try and play rugby"?

Re: Six Nations Rugby!

I am actually glad England won, if it could not be the Irish, then it was good to see another side apart from France win, as the French have been so dominant, but this did make me laugh.

Is that a self-imposed sin bin? I totally agree on the (objective) summary of the 6n s this year, as I said before a victory for Italy (and it didnt really matter against which team) is a victory for the championship as it will be great to see them energised for the future. All in all, probably one of the most entertaining recent championships. Well done all teams....... well maybe except...... no we won`t go there.
