So you mean to say England won the Test and ODI series recently because of Mr. Big from Mumbai.
Nah, they would have won the home series regardless. But some of the chokes were just unbelievable (I mean, come on, seven wickets fell for 21 runs after lunch on the last day of the 4th test - surely not!).

lol...talking about chokes well if you see yesterdays match highlights, the English fielders (Specially Keiswetter) really defined choking. Oh yes and don't forget the World Cup Matches England vs Ireland and India vs England.

Re: England versus India - whitewash!!

The whitewash is a distant memory now. Whilst the ODI series in England was a close one, with the weather and the infamous D/L method influencing the outcomes, the series in India has been hopelessly one-sided barring the needless verbals borne out of frustration. Its 4-0 now. I saw posters amongst the spectators demanding a 5-0 Diwali gift.

Re: England versus India - whitewash!!

Too much cricket really.

The Indian team came off a long year which included the high of winning the world cup at home, didn't look like they wanted to be in England and got whitewashed against a motivated English squad.

Now it is the opposite.

Talking of chokes, how about today's match, the 5th one at Kolkata? England were cruising at 129/0 in 20 overs. The first wicket falls at 20.2 overs when the score is 129 and then its all over in the 37th over. So 10 wickets fell in a span of 16.4 overs and 47 runs. The English openers were going at more than 6 runs an over with all wickets in hand. One falls and they all fall down. Ouch...

ODIs are hardly a measure of how good a team are at test cricket. Fact is that the purest form of the game is test cricket.

Porsch1909... English... think you've made a wrong turn in your assumptions there...

I don't think anyone is denying that England were crap in the ODIs, but the fact remains that we've never had a good ODI team as we don't have the hard hitters - we do slow and steady very well.

But, tbh, I am more interested in the test series.

2008-2009: India Beat England in India 1-0
http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engin...es/361039.html

Re: England versus India - whitewash!!

ODI? Who cares, really?
I think these ODI only tours are a horrible, unnecessary money-spinning exercise.
Carlos is right, only test cricket really matters.

I'm not English or Indian. You should probably re-read this thread to see my prediction of England going away from home and being put in their place.

For the number one test side (India at the time IIRC) to go away from home and not score over 300 in a single innings is pathetic.

Re: England versus India - whitewash!!

Winning 5-0 at home even though fantastic in my opinion does not compensate for the loss this summer in England.

Whether it was lack of preparation or application or too much cricket as a then no. 1 side in the format we ( India ) were found lacking in all departments.

England are "rubbish" in the ODI format, and even worse against spin on turning wickets. It is a hollow victory.

Agreed. That was probably because of too much Cricket. But then again every day is not Sunday and it should not way reflects on Indian team's talent. Not like Indians only win on home turf.
