| | FC Basel vs Man Utd - Post game
Not sure if this is the right thread, but has anyone been to a FC Basel game??
I am going on Wednesday to watch the lads (United) play, but I will be in the United end and am just trying to get an idea as to whether they will keep us in the stadium after the game whilst the home fans leave.
Generally, this is only done in hostile places, and realistically United dont cause trouble historically, and unless someone flushes the toilet after 11 or washes their clothes on the wrong day I can't see the Swiss getting hostile about anything.
Because I am trying to plan for train back to Zurich, I want to get an idea from those who have been to the St Jakob Stadium to give me their feedback and any tips on commuting etc
Thanks

It all depends on how the fans behave before and during the game. It it's gonna be an emotional game maybe too. | Quote: | | | | | Generally, this is only done in hostile places, and realistically United dont cause trouble historically, and unless someone flushes the toilet after 11 or washes their clothes on the wrong day I can't see the Swiss getting hostile about anything. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Because I am trying to plan for train back to Zurich, I want to get an idea from those who have been to the St Jakob Stadium to give me their feedback and any tips on commuting etc
Thanks | | | | | As far as I know there are no Extra Trains from St. Jakob to Zürich.
There are regular trams to SBB Mainstation and some Extra Trains from St. Jakob to the Mainstation (your Gameticket is valid for this). You should be home latest 1am in Zürich.

I attended the Switzerland v England last year and the English fans before the game and after were no bother. There is more trouble when Zürich come to Basel!!! Would have loved to go to St Jakobs to see manure get knocked out of the tournament |

I'm guessing you'll be held back for ten minutes or so, but after that you can stroll over to the train platform at the corner of the stadium - you should make it to Zurich no problem.
There's always announcements, and the stewards will make it pretty clear.
And as for Man Utd fans being no bother - how much damage could they realistically do with their prawn sandwiches? |

Saw the game at Utd (and although sat in with Utd fans was hoping Basel would win)... was a great game. Hopefully a sneaky win in this game for FCB.
I have been to St Jakob once but only against Xamax, so cant really comment on being held back. But was great getting food and drink and still seeing the pitch...and all the home supporters in the terrace cheering and singing the way through.
Hopp Basel!

Havent been to a game in Basel but went to see Spurs play against Bern Young Boys some time back. No, I am not the Spurs fan in the family.
The Spurs away fans were kept "locked" till all the YB fans left the stadium. I had friends sitting in that section but it wasnt too long a wait, 30 minutes max? Transportation is pretty efficient - most of them walked - but there was an increase in how regular the trams were from the stadium to Bern HB.
Just make sure you've got ample time to get the last train home. Bloody Manure fan!

Well thats what I am worried about, because the game will finish at 10:30-10:45, then if there is a period of lock down, we may be pushed to get the 11:13 or 11:15 for sure, and the last trains are 00:13, wouldnt want to miss that.
But I think it should be ok. 1hr 30mins should be enough, factoring in any lockdown time

You could amble on foot from the stadium to SBB in 30-40 minutes, so I don't think there'll be any problem.
Even if you only leave the stadium at 2345, you can walk the 5-10 minutes to Basel Dreispitz station and get the 0005 S-Bahn to SBB which arrives at 0010 - leaving you 5 mins to dash over to the Zurich train. I'm pretty sure they'll want everyone out of the stadium well before then though |

From what I saw on TV it looked like a game with a good atmosphere (at least from home support) especially near the end. What was it like there?
