who are the favourites now?? what do u predict for QF's and SF's?
mine is Ind-BD, SA-SL , Pak - Aus, Ire - NZ

then semis Ind-Aus and NZ - SL (SA will obviously c****).
I think SA has choked its quota of choking in the league stage itself. I think they devised a great tactics in losing a few in the league stage. They might win the cup now.

Key word- beaten!
We are Aussies. Being beaten, repeatably, is no problem for us. We are hard, hard to bluff and used to hardships.

Question is will England bounce back?

Yeah, just like they blew your team away.
Yes indeed, we were blown away by NZ... blown away by one wicket in a chase of 152.

Decisive stuff. Especially after NZ destroyed that giant of the cricket world, Scotland (losing seven wickets in the process).

would have been a credible argument had they choked only once. But they chocked twice !! So it seems that the bigger the team is on paper, the more they choke on the large scale.
if it were a bilateral series or a tri series, I wud say that SA would beat SL (or even Ind, Pak) 4-1 or at worstt 3-2, if not 5-0. But in world cup..nah...

Re: Cricket World Cup 2015

it seems that BD supporters are all worked up and dreaming of defeating Ind and then reaching finals to play Aus or SA. Check the video on ESPN website after BD defeated Eng. Hmmmm... I guess most of those guys were not drunk or high on grass (mostly for religious reasons I speculate).
But still this much !!!

Reminds me of the 1999 WC (or was it 1996) when they defeated Pakistan in a inconsequential group game and thought that they are now ready to do an India of 1983 or a SL of 1996 in subsequent tournaments. But close to 20 yrs and the best they can do is whitewash Zim or a weak Kiwi team at home and defeat a top team max once in 5-6 years and lose the remaining times. Staying rooted to ground has helped IR, Afg immensely and BD can take a leaf out of their book.

Just one Shakib cannot bring glory to the team. Look at the indian team of 90's. Just one lone SRT (even of his level of greatness) was never enough. India could do something only when they had a great team (2003, 2011). best example is 2007 when Greg chapel ensured that they were 11 individuals and not a team. the same core guys of 2003 and 2011 hardly made an impact. That's the best bet for a side like BD to do something but this time, Ind is playing as a team. its not just VK+10 or MSD+10. its a team..BD shud pat their backs if then loose by less than 50 runs or if Ind take more than 45 overs to overhaul their total.

Re: Cricket World Cup 2015

Another unconvincing result for NZ, coming perilously close to allowing Bangladesh to extend their run of 7 consecutive victories against them.

I think the knock-out stages will tell quite a different story than the group games.

Looks like England will go home with one win from six group matches!

In a way it's a shame that England won't have to go through qualifying for the next (or any, for that matter) world cup...

True, the margins don't matter since no other team in the group went undefeated. And of course, in the next phase, the margins don't matter at all.

The ENG-AFG game just restarted, so it seems England are in with a shot of two more points after all.

Re: Cricket World Cup 2015

I think it's only fair that England and the other first-round non-qualifiers should get the opportunity to play in a "shield" competition England could thus get some valuable experience of playing against similarly-rated opposition in a competitive environment. Plus they would still be around to watch the eventual winners lifting the trophy and to give them their congratulations....

Re: Cricket World Cup 2015

as an Indian fan, would love to see Pak defeat Aus in QF. in this way Ind play Pak in semis. Ind has a gud chance of defeating Aus (based on current form and the fact that the semifinal will be in Sydney where the pitch will assist spinners). But against Pak, its a guarantee... they don't have any "mauka" (opportunity) in WC's. So prefer to meet Pak in semis than Aus. so I will support Pak in the match vs Ire. This way Pak is 3rd in Pool B and not Ire.

Re: Cricket World Cup 2015

to be fair, the current English team is very good. Its just that they were unlucky...I mean they were asked to play one day cricket :-)
its a good test team. Except for Morgan, Root and Ali, none qualify for ODI's.
the ECB should suck up and allow players to play IPL. no one wud buy Bell, Bristow, Balance, Anderson, Finn, Broad for IPL. so whats the harm? let other guys in Eng team learn their trade. Similarly from Ind, Pujara, Raydu,Vijay, Ishant, Aron etc. can go and play in county cricket and improve their 5 day skills. These guys are wasting their energy in IPL. BCCI and ECB should have such deals for benefits of both teams. we r bored of seeing Ind thrashed in tests and Eng thrashed in ODI's by each other and also by SA & Aus.
