And Vettel???? please, be sensible | | | | | You say this as if Hamilton had beaten Alonso by 60 points (which is what Alonso usually does with his teammates). They both got 109 points in 2007 and Hamilton was ahead of Alonso just because he had finished second in more races. Actually Alonso would have probably won the championship if he had not been punished because of his own team in the Hungarian GP.

Bottas for Mercedes and Massa back with Williams seems to be the favourite option now http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/38384982 |

Not sure i agree with Massa coming back. He seems past it and doesn't seem right after his Brazil GP farewell.
Was hoping for a Paul di resta surprise return |

I read martini sponsorship is conditional on them having a driver over 25, and of course massa brings sponsors with him, so the only upside is williams will be swimming in money next year, and have free engines.
but why not try and get button?

Makes sense. They want an experienced driver and Massa already knows the team. Question is who'll replace Bottas? Their reserve/test driver or will they go after someone else.

There is still no official announcement on Rosberg's replacement but Bottas does seem to be all but confirmed. http://www.express.co.uk/sport/f1-au...cement-Twitter |

Now confirmed.
"Valtteri Bottas has succeeded retired world champion Nico Rosberg as Lewis Hamilton's team-mate at Mercedes.
The move, expected since December, also sees Brazilian Felipe Massa come out of retirement to replace the 27-year-old Finn at Williams.
Bottas has signed a one-year deal with the option for more, while Rosberg moves into an ambassadorial role.
Mercedes' young driver Pascal Wehrlein, passed over in favour of Bottas, joins the Swiss Sauber team." http://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/38489054 |

Did anyone see the Robserg interview at the WEF in Davos?
I think I'll be much more of a fan of the man than I was the driver.
It's pretty bold for a current F1 Champion to say "there's more to life than driving round in circles!"

I think the one to watch in the new season will be Bottas. He is only under contract with Mercedes for a year, and this time next year both Alonso and Vettel will be out of contract with their respective teams. It would be far too easy in 2018 for Bottas to move back to Williams after Massa FINALLY retires in order to make room for one of the big boys... Unless... Bottas does something very special in order to cement his place at Mercedes.
Also, where is the rivalry going to come from this year? It's so difficult to predict, what with the new cars and phrases like "5 seconds faster" being bandied about. It's a shame about Rosberg, because there was definitely something heating up between him and Verstappen!

If Bottas doesn't do well enough to keep his place after a year, I think that Vettel would be the clear favourite to replace him.
