brilliant night of footie!
lets see what Juve und Bayern are up to tonight!
Juve probably (sadly) got nothing to come back as marvelous as Roma did.
But hope dies last.

Re: UEFA Champions League 2018 Discussion

Would love Sevilla make it through...some, and of course Gigi in the other game, but that one feels pretty much impossible.

OH et moi watched the Man.City V Liverpool game last night, really happy to see them go through. OH was beaming after the equalizer, though that may well have been the Guinness. Nice to see the seldom mentioned but hard grafting Firmino score the decider, a kingpin in the squad.

Watched highlights of the Roma - Barça match...incredible result, incredible spirit, well done Roma.

That penalty (even tho I think it was correctly given) and the red card, was a huge deception. I just turned of the telly and was immediately done with watching the game.

Penalty was correct in my eyes, as he pushes him with his 2 hands in the back. With this feet he kicks the ball but this is irrelevant after the pushing.

However the red card for Gigi, that was a big disappointment. But his reaction was a bit furious. But still, he should have given him yellow and gave Gigi a change to defend his goal.

The comment of Buffon of the ref is not feeling the game if he gives a penalty that late, is a bit ridiculous I think. This would mean you can do anything in the last 5 min...

Re: UEFA Champions League 2018 Discussion

The referee saw nothing, he blew his whistle because he was signalled by the assistant referee on the touchline, that assistant was face-on to the action, in other words he was unable to see what was going on at the strikers back (the touching by the defender) and was reacting to what he believed was a kick at the striker's feet without touching the ball, which was in fact not the case as it was clear the ball was struck by the defender.

In any case, the shove, which was only witnessed in the replay from different angles, was reason enough to award the penalty, though in any other game on any other day could also have been waved away...a 50/50 situation.

Unfortunately for Gigi, it looks like he will be the one sitting in the stands for the next CL match with a bag of crisps.

Much as I detest Real and Ronaldo, that was a pretty clear penalty.

Totally stoked Liverpool made it through, 5-1 on aggregate against arguably one of the best teams in Europe is no mean feat . City have lost 5 games all season, 3 of them to Liverpool .

Re: UEFA Champions League 2018 Discussion

Jangling nerves all round, I'd say. The push - total panic. Buffon''s reaction, a mixture of blind panic and horror. The ref: panic, as he fears he might just have started a mass brawl (and that he might have been wrong in the first place). Unfortunately, all the cards are in the ref's hands. Whatever the perspective, it's hard not to feel cheated on behalf of Juve and Buffon.

It was a clear penalty and buffoons reaction was unacceptable.

Brill. So who do you think Liverpool should get for a chance to get to the final? We seen the Bayern match as well last night, what a bore, nothing like the other games this week. I did not see anything in that team that should scare Liverpool, perhaps this is the team we should hope for, for LFC. Fantastic would be to beat Real, I have tried hard to like Cristiano Ronaldo, there is no doubt he is top class in the world, but his attitude just kills it for me.

If we do have to meet Real, I would rather it would be in the final than over two legs.

You think? I don't know what he said to the referee and I doubt you do either. I frankly think the behaviour of these footballers is at times outrageous. A decision has been made by the referee and will stand.

Can you imagine the outrage if the referee changed the decision because Buffoon ran forward and started to shout and swear and threatening the ref.

I'm not saying I'm condoning it. Not at all. In the context of the match over two legs, the consequences, and the fact it might well be his last appearance in the CL. I'd forgive him a bit of a flip-out.

Not sure, we typically struggle against hard-to-break-down teams and the fact Roma and Real shipped 4 and 3 goals, respectively, means goals might be easier to come by against these two. Having said that, a Liverpool - Real final is a pretty mouthwatering prospect.

Yeh heat of the moment and all of course can be forgiven. Maybe a cool head could have saved the penalty.

Szczęsny had one...
But that shot to the top corner was not "saveable" in 99.99% of attempts.
Ronaldo on the other hand perhaps would have a bit less cool head if Gigi stood in front of him.
