Szczęsny had one...
But that shot to the top corner was not "saveable" in 99.99% of attempts.
Ronaldo on the other hand perhaps would have a bit less cool head if Gigi stood in front of him.
Maybe Ronaldo would have been a bit more nervous with Buffoon in front of his rather than some unknown. Who knows.

But I'd imagine Buffoon would have had a better chance at saving a penalty than most goal keepers.

The referee saw nothing, he blew his whistle because he was signalled by the assistant referee on the touchline, that assistant was face-on to the action, in other words he was unable to see what was going on at the strikers back (the touching by the defender) and was reacting to what he believed was a kick at the striker's feet without touching the ball, which was in fact not the case as it was clear the ball was struck by the defender.
I've looked at the action several times, and I do not see Benatia hit the ball, I see the ball rebounds on Vazquez's chest. And don't get me wrong, I would have been very happy to see Madrid out.

The push on the shoulders already could have been a penalty regardless of what happens after that.

Why be so disrespectful? Yes, he made a tw*t of himself in his protest, and deserved the red card. But he's one the greatest goalkeepers of all time, playing at the very highest level for more than 20 years.

In Italy the penalty is widely accepted as regular and rightfully awarded even by most Juventus fans. This is not an object of discussion anymore.

Re: UEFA Champions League 2018 Discussion

Liverpool was a nice game and ManCity made a very different appearence compared to the away game. still Pep cant win big games it seems.

Bayern match was boring and dreadful. i dunno why they did not make something out of the dominance they had as Sevilla was playing so retained, cautious? I hope its going to be a better performance in the next round.

Juve made a incredible comeback and i think the penalty is a 50/50 thing. he plays the ball 50% but 50% he rammed him over. so depending on how the ref sees it, its a 100% penalty.

looking forward to the semifinal draft today!

100% pen for me; defender pushed him in the back and tried a "reacharound" tackle, completely missing the ball. The striker would have had a pretty much point-blank regulation header otherwise.

After watching both their last quarters I would say Roma has enough to upset Real...wouldn't that be wonderful.

Re: UEFA Champions League 2018 Discussion

salah back to rome!

liverpool's odds go from 3/1 to 2/1 btw.

the bayern real match, what a cracker. both teams with a high average age, it'll be like a slugfest between old heavyweights.

talking of which, the only thing bigger than the european cup trophy is vitali klitchko, it turns out.

Re: UEFA Champions League 2018 Discussion

For any Americans who are not familiar with this sport, here is a fun fact from the BBC that may spark some interest in the upcoming Liverpool v Roma semi-final.

There could be a local derby – of sorts – in the semi-finals of the Champions League. The owners of Liverpool and Roma are both from the city of Boston in the USA.
Fenway Sports Group controls the English side and the Italians are co-owned by businessman Jim Pallotta, the man who celebrated Tuesday’s win over Barcelona by jumping into a fountain.
So there'll be plenty of interest in Massachusetts...
