best possible result. i think both will be great matches.
aye, but can Liverpool do a home leg like they did against Man. City, and avoid a remontada in Rome like against Barça?? Tough, tough games ahead, as it should be at this stage.

I think LFC can get to the final, and in a one-off final have their chances.

salah back to rome!

liverpool's odds go from 3/1 to 2/1 btw.

the bayern real match, what a cracker. both teams with a high average age, it'll be like a slugfest between old heavyweights.

talking of which, the only thing bigger than the european cup trophy is vitali klitchko, it turns out.
Bookies getting scared already.

Everyone ready for the big game tomorrow? Atmosphere should be great, as should the match...let's hope for a win and even a clean sheet, which is a big ask seeing as Roma put some past Barça.

Good luck to the Reds.

Re: UEFA Champions League 2018 Discussion

Along with most of the media, I’m so convinced that Liverpool will crush Roma and get to the final, that I feel it’s now inevitable it will all go horribly wrong. That instead of 3 or 4 nil tonight, Liverpool will go down 1-2 or perhaps scrape a 2-2, before a spirited but inadequate return leg next week.

I hope I’m wrong. I’m not a Liverpool fan per se, but I like the way they play, love Anfield, and admire Klopp. Would be delighted to see them go all the way and win it, but my natural pessimism keeps dragging me back to reality.

Either way, hugely looking forward to all 4 of the semi ties. As we’ve seen recently, even a convincing first leg victory guarantees nothing.

Plenty of beer in the fridge. That’s the important thing. Whether celebration or consolation, it will help!

OUCH!!!

What an atmosphere last night down at the Fish pub, mostly Liverpool fans but many Roma ones too, good hearted banter and cheering by all, now onto the second leg, still with fingers crossed!

My pessimism was unfounded. Fantastic performance by Liverpool. Even the Italian papers are conceding they were demolished, and have little hope in the return.

Three negatives:
-- the violence from the small minority of Italian fans before the game
-- Oxlade-Chamberlain's knee injury which puts him out of action for several months, so he'll miss the World Cup
-- the 2 late goals which gives just enough possibility of a comeback to keep a bit of tension in the air for the return.

But it's looking like Liverpool vs Real Madrid in the final.

Fantastic night... took me back a bit to the glory days

They'll get through.. and I'd say it's 50/50 against Real (presumably).

Honestly, I just want to see Christian having a hissy fit and then crying.

Re: UEFA Champions League 2018 Discussion

I read the match report in the Corriere dello Sport to see what was being said by the Italians, and yes, they were praising the skill, speed and finish of Liverpool.
They also talked about the 2 late Roma goals as showing the pride and fight of their team and how it offered a lifeline for the return leg. The HYS showed how people/fans are all the same the world over, much was written on how they overturned the Barcelona team to move forward and hoped for a repeat, though many added that Liverpool would be harder to crack. Roma's tactics of not neutralising Salah were also put into question. This I believe will be the biggest change for the second leg.

In a way, it plays into LFC's hands; Roma, thinking they can repeat the Barca comeback, will press forward and just invite LFC's counterattacking football. Roma's defence was so sluggish on Tuesday, I can't see them not conceding.

Re: UEFA Champions League 2018 Discussion

i know anfield makes anyone giddy with the floor-shaking anthems, the sentimental ballads, and the smoke-bombs, but that game on tuesday was the most spectacular i've ever seen! it took me an hour to consolidate satisfactorily those two roma goals. at 5:0 i was high like i was drunk or something and then two goals later... another stunning anfield european night, which makes that at least 3 of them for klopp.

also i've bet a bundle of chf that roma go through at 7/1, just in case. i will buy some brands of drinks that i've never had coz they're too expensive, and then painstakingly get over it.

Well... I'm as nervous as an alter boy at Easter...

Let's hope we can get a few early goals and then weather the storm

(but my best bet is 2-2 then we'll lose on penalties... ever the optimist)
