Re: Olympics 2008 Beijing

Hi Lu, ni hao,
not to sound rude, but i see most of your posts are from here.
This thread is about the Olympics, and as many have agreed already about what has happened with the little girl. some have differing opinions.
but to bring in this

Quote:

If Beijing could take the Olympics as a show case, why not let the protestors and dissents also show up? Is it fair that only Communists can hijack Olympics?
well what can anyone say? it would basically be bringing up everything said on that thread (all 90 posts)
so either you want to incite something...or please stick to maybe the actual games. thanks xie xie.

(ps. i am chinese from malaysia, i don't pay china taxes but have paid taxes in HK for many years!)

There's a very interesting interview with a former german intelligence head who explains this mechanism.

It's probably fair to say that the recent turmoils in Tibet and Xinjiang are part of that tactic.

I'm sure there are genuine desires by the minority groups to gain more freedom, but that's not the main agenda of these struggles.
xapadoo, really we want to bring tibet to this thread? (albeit, you did start it)

You're right swissotter. Let's talk about sports

Currently I'm watching the polish volleyball women's team playing against Japan.

They're losing, but hey "They're looking cute doing it"

Re: Olympics 2008 Beijing

in the spirit of the Olympics, i thought i'd make a change to my usual dreary routine tomorrow.

i will tumble down the stairs on the way to get my bike and cycle 47km to work. As i arrive in my office, i will first perform a short girly choreography i call "drunken panda" before executing my final major tumble involving a triple twist double somersault (alternately tucked and pike). finally, as i saunter past my boss' desk on the way to the coffee machine (Nespresso), i will execute an perfect osotogari on my boss, to the cheers of "Ippon!" from all my colleagues, before grabbing a quick latte, logging on to my computer and checking in to EF...

Re: Olympics 2008 Beijing

Here's what I just read from a website (the site says it isn't confirming its truth and I do not claim it's true):
The name of the girl who did sing the song at the opening ceremony is listed in the programme of the ceremony and followed immediately by that of the lip-sync girl who appeared on stage.
I felt really hurt when I first read the original news. If this is true I'd at least say the newspaper or whatever that first published the news hadn't checked or included all the relevant facts. At least I wasn't aware of this particular fact (if it's indeed a fact). These days you can really learn a lot about press.

Here's a picture purportedly showing a page from the programme. Sorry it's in Chinese. In line 9, the name marked A is the voice girl, B the face girl.

Has anyone seen any water polo being played. I end up watching heaps of other stuff just trying to catch a glimps. Mind you, it's probably over now anyway.

no, it's still on
(BEIJING, August 14) -- World champion Croatia easily kept its winning streak alive, beating Germany 13-5 in the first of the group B matches. Serbia smacked the United States with its first loss of the Games, beating the Americans 4-2, also in group B. The first group A game saw Hungary beat Spain 8-5 in the preliminary round of the Men's Water Polo competition at the Yingdong Natatorium on Thursday, August 14."

i watch so much of the swimming + diving that i missed all the gymnastics action....

and a nice photo...not fm olympics, but still nice!

Re: Olympics 2008 Beijing

What Michael Phelps eats daily:

"Phelps' diet - which involves ingesting 4,000 calories every time he sits down for a meal - resembles that of a reckless overeater rather than an Olympian.

Phelps lends a new spin to the phrase "Breakfast of Champions" by starting off his day by eating three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise.

He follows that up with two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes.

At lunch, Phelps gobbles up a pound of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches slathered with mayo on white bread - capping off the meal by chugging about 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.

For dinner, Phelps really loads up on the carbs - what he needs to give him plenty of energy for his five-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week regimen - with a pound of pasta and an entire pizza.

He washes all that down with another 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks."
